How is it that ebay gets away with taking fees from the postage amount paid?? 12% fees not good enough, taKE 12% FROM THE POSTAGE AMOUNT WHICH YOU HAVE TO MAKE UP TO PAY THE POSTAGE.
eBAY THE SELLER DOESN'T GET THE POSTAGE AMOUNT.

·6 months agoIn effect it raises the % eBay take to about 20% on the item which may be a false indication on the rate chart?
I think the % on the fee should be refunded ion the postage part f you purchase postage through eBay - this seems the ethical and legal? thing to do. I understand why eBay have had to implement this fee but a credit should be received on the postage part 🤞🤞🤞

OP6 months agoappreciate your understanding of the issue and reply, and agree with your idea. definitely ethical thing ebay could do, but hidden (for the foggy!) actual fee percentage amount no doubt attractive for ebay. I've contacted ebay about it back when it started.. but they not seem to understand it................... !
effective percent can range higher than 20% too. (cheap item high postage)

OP6 months agojust in! .... look at your ebay postage charge.. you get a 'discount' for buying the label on ebay... or do you?!
my latest package ebay auspost discounted price 18.67, at auspost price 15.25 .
I contacted ebay about it.. "there is a system error being fixed at the moment"
did I miss the notification about that? no, did anyone get notified?

·6 months agoIt's been a problem for weeks now. And they've known about it from the start and haven't done a thing. Their solution is to tell you to use fixed rate and not calculated. That's ok for parcels under 1 kg, but once you go over 1 kg it's a nightmare.
Yesterday they offered me a 'cheap' ebay postage label for $18+ for an item that I sent as a large letter!

OP7 months agoThanks yes, but what happens is everything gets jacked up and buyers pay more, or sales go down, or seller gets less. Doesn't seem sustainable long term.

OP7 months agoI'm aware of it. how is it nobody thinks the postage amount should get fees charged on it. The post office wouldn't take less. you're only passing on the postage charge.

look at the fee break down, why should ebay get some of the postage amount? is the point.

·7 months agoThe fees on postage was introduced, to stop unscrupulous sellers selling items for $1 plus postage at $500, therefore only paying fees on $1, a practice that was widespread.
I don't need to look at the fee breakdown, as I am well aware of how ebays fee structure works, and incorporate all costs into the total sales invoice.

OP7 months agodo you sell? add it up, it is fees on the postage amount that the seller pays. if youre stuck on the GST idea, why pay gst on a service?!! postal service.

OP6 months agoYes. did see it. and ebay changed the fee structure to how it is now. and I learned the hard way by selling a $20 heavy item that had $60 for postage, work out the fees on that! it makes a lot of items un-sellable here on ebay... and from consensus here, that's a good thing! amazing.

·7 months agoIt's irrelevant whether I sell or not, it's simply a fact of life that you do have to pay fees on postage as per the GST. All you have to do is increase your postage by a little to cover that amount, or partly cover it.
No amount of ranting by you is going to change that................
Again, postage is a "service" and GST stands for Goods and Services Tax, get it ?

ebay charges 12.? % on the postage amount.
for a start a lot of ranting by a lot of people CAN change things. but it was a question to see if anyone else feels the fees on postage is right.

I doubt they make decisions on things based on people's personal opinion
Since this is a member to member forum, no ranting won't change anything
Neither eBay (who are not about to change things based on rants) nor anyone else in a 'position of power' read here
And yes, I was a seller for a long time and I paid the fees involved in selling.
All sellers agree to them when they list
In my life, I have far bigger, real world concerns to focus my attention on than 'I don't like that fee' *stomp*
There are also many threads here stretching back to when Adam was still using a potty about people 'not liking' the fees and how they are going to the ACCC (who approved them) or they are going to stop selling if eBay don't remove said fee or the fee wasn't 'legal'

OP6 months agook if a community member doesn't like the fee on the (correct) postage amount, they should keep it to themselves and shutup about it. got it. Thanks.
my thoughts are a lot do not think the fee on postage is right, but a few got all uppity because I bumped the caps lock as I was typing the original post.

·6 months agoThey could have simply increased the FVF to whatever they liked. Apart from the the 2.5% transaction fee previously charged by paypal, which was incorporated into the ebay FVF at the commencement of managed payments, when was the actual last time that ebay FVF was increased?

And nobody is getting uppity about your yelling (because you thought posting here was telling eBay something), simply stating a fact
If you don't think fees on postage are right, then don't include postage as 'postage' and instead have 'free' postage and add that amount to the item price
