Getting paid
Item sold, buyer happy and posted positive comment. Registered buyer and seller since 2012. EBay taken payment of fees immediately. Payment still in hold. No excuse for this. And sadly there is nothing one can do. You are at the mercy of eBay. It has soured the whole transaction sadly. I guess the message here is ‘be prepared’

·3 years agoAgain, I sense the frustration, however I didn't create these T's and C's. I think I was just confused by the inconsistency around them, example it says 'proceeds from your sales typically become available within 2 days of confirming the buyer's payment', then below it mentions the 30 days etc, then the fact that 30 days was never the case with any items I sold previously, that's all.
domino-710
·3 years agoNo inconsistancies - as a sometime seller - the funds will be held for up to 30 days - sooner if no problems arise with the sales.
If you sell on a regular basis - the first will be held until there are no issues - from then payment will appear on your choice of regularity thereafter.
Simples.

·3 years agoSometimes you have to read past the first line, it makes life so much easier.
The holds apply to you.
Just to add, there is also a section relating to reserves, you might like to read.
*sons_n_daughters*
·3 years agoBecause things change. Ebay changes all the damned time. None of us ever used to have holds on funds when we started selling. Then it was brought in that new sellers had holds for 90 days or X amount of transactions. The holds back then were for 21 days.
Since scamming and hacking has become rife on this platform, as mentioned countless times, any new or infrequent sellers are now subject to 30 day holds. As a 20 year seller, I am subjected to it, because I am classed as an infrequent seller.
It doesn't matter how much you've sold in the past. If you are only selling one or 2 items a month now, you are an infrequent seller, so the rules apply to you. Same as they do for me. Same as they would for Sandy should she chose to start selling again.

·3 years agoI'm not even certain that sz_1984 has signed up for Managed Payments and been verified.
They haven't been specific enough in my mind.
If not verified, then they'll never get their money.
They say they are registered as a seller but may be unaware that they have to register and be verified under the ebay rules.

And where are all the sales they keep hammering on about?
I only see one recent and one a year ago on this account, and it's this account that they are complaining about.

·3 years agoHey honored contributor, I have had payouts through the managed payments system. I mentioned this in previous comments.
It's honestly ok guys, it's just an opinion you don't agree with about a website, not Sharia Law.
Although, I have to take my hat off to you about how passionate alot of you are, about paying a fee to have your money held for 30 - null days after a transaction is successfully completed.... and you aren't even eBay employees.
padi*0409
·3 years agoOK, so you had one previous payout that happened in a few days - maybe look at that as a very fortunate happening where eBay didn't follow their own policies on "new sellers".
See - look at it that way and you've had a win...................
imastawka
·3 years agoIf you become a regular seller, there's not a 30 day wait.
You can choose when you want your money.
Most sellers choose to have a weekly payout.
davewil1964
·3 years agoAs a couple of regular sellers, with weekly payments selected, I get paid weekly. It used to be Tuesday, now it's Monday.
I'm not passionate about it; I have properly signed up for MP, I don't sell sporadically, the system works for me.
Your issue seems to be, as said, that you don't believe eBay's terms should apply to you. As evinced by you claiming the eBay T&Cs you agreed to are somehow T&Cs other members have invented.
Rather than wasting your time on the boards, asking other members for help which you don't believe, your time could be more productively spent actually reading the T&Cs you agreed to.

·3 years agoThat is right we are not (obviously you think we don’t know sarcasm when we see it)
Ok, so last time you got special treatment form eBay, which is contributing to why you believe you are special
Maybe that is what they are looking into now, why did you get special treatment when you shouldn’t have
You have spent almost 5 pages demonstrating you have no idea how eBay works, responded to factual replies with insults, what you seem to think as humerus responses and contradicting factual replies
All of which you preferred to spend your time doing rather than reading what you pretended to read in the first place
I am not passionate about anything ebay
I am equally not found of self entitled little people, nor I am I deluded enough to think eBay owe me special treatment
springyzone
·3 years agoNah, we are not passionate about it, you've got the wrong end of the stick.
We're just repetitive because we thought you were a bit thick and not getting the gist of how ebay works.
Personally, as a buyer, I am all for the 30 day hold on the money I have paid over, if it means I am covered by the 30 day ebay money back guarantee.
Back in the early days, I had a couple of bad experiences where the seller got my money but I got nothing, they just took off and failed to post, and there was not a thing I could do about it.
I also used to sell and had no hold on money but if I returned to selling, the initial 30 day hold wouldn't worry me unduly because I would know that it wasn't a permanent thing, not if I sold regularly & in a reasonable volume. Most of the regular sellers in this forum are not on a 30 day hold.
In fact, the 30 day hold would be the least of my worries as a seller. I'd be more concerned with some of the numpty buyers or scammers, which is one of the reasons I haven't returned to selling.

·3 years agowhat length of time do I think is appropriate to hold onto someone else' money that isn't mine? doesn't really matter. I was just stating that it's odd being exactly 30 days, not less or more.
gutterpunkz05
·3 years agoNothing odd about it, as it can be extended, I think up to 180 days, sounds familiar
Depending on the reasons for holds, the payment of funds can also be refused, with funds then forwarded to ASIC
*sons_n_daughters*
·3 years agoThe hold used to be 21 days, but ebay increased it to 30. Obviously they have their reasons. I have been selling for 20 years. The last few years, I've been very slack in my listings, so sales have been few and far between. No one's fault but my own. I am now subject to the 30 day hold if I sell something,
They brought it in to hopefully slow up the scammers. Scammers would hijack dormant accounts and list high end items for extremely low prices. An example, a $700 Makita drill for $20. Of course, people would jump on them. Immediate payment required. A few days later, the scammer has "sold" 1,000 of these items and cleaned out the hacked PayPal account, and the buyers are screwed. It's nothing against you. It's all about stopping the scum that were ruining ebay for many years.
If you bought an item, only to discover you may have been scammed, would you want the seller to have immediate payment, where you are basically screwed and can't get a refund, or have their funds held where you can open a dispute and go, I've been scammed, I want a refund? The hold means you'll get a refund. No holds, you lose.
As long as you've signed up to Managed Payments, you'll get your money. If you haven't, you won't. If the buyer has left feedback saying they have received the item and are happy, get onto ebay and usually they will release the funds early.
And no, like everyone else here, I don't work for ebay. I don't know your identity and I certainly don't know your address. I've just started watching Have You Been Paying Attention. I don't think they have that in the Philippines, where the ebay employees reside.
springyzone
·3 years agoNot odd at all. Buyers get about 30 days after an item arrives in which to open an ebay claim if they feel something wasn't right with their purchase-either it didn't arrive within that time or was faulty etc
After that, the buyer can't claim on ebay's money back guarantee.
30 days. Coincidence? I think not. They release the funds once they feel the sale is final with no comebacks.

·3 years agoO' Mankind, there are reasons for what I wrote and again, it was based on the conflicting and strange responses from your colleagues. Do you understand that turning two narcissists into human beings, is literally the most complex task in human history? in other words, I know what I'm writing, although I understand it' depicted too accurately.
You guys / eBay know my identity, address etc... I'm pretty sure that the funds could've been released (like all my other items), given I paid a fee for a service you provided.
'BUT sz_1984, the T's and C's that YOU agreed to that weren't applied to previous items', I know guys, hence my initial post.

·3 years agoBy the way, I am a one man band, just like everyone else here, no affiliation with ebay.
And yes as an infrequent seller you pose a significant risk to ebay and their buyers.
The fact you know who you are means nothing.
No body here or at ebay, knows that you are actually authorised to use the account you have sold with.
Nor do they know what flags may be raised by external agencies during the 30 day hold period.
countessalmirena
·3 years agoNo one posting on this thread knows your identity and address.
No one posting on this thread has colleagues who have given conflicting and strange response.
The posters on this thread are eBay members like you. Some are buyers; some are sellers; some are both. Mostly the eBay members who post on these boards regularly are very au fait with eBay policies, more so than eBay CS chat reps because we have read the policies and seen them play out rather than simply reading from a script. This is a public board, not a private red phone to eBay.
No one posting on this thread has received a fee from you, nor have they provided you with a service.
I pass by the rather odd reference to narcissists being turned into human beings, as it is neither logical nor factual, and it appears to be irrelvant to the substance of your post.
Something about your recent sale/s may have triggered the automatic payment hold. Alternatively, the universe is just in the sort of mood to pummel you.

·3 years agoYou wrote this in response to sandypebbles.
I'd just like to point out that they aren't sandy's terms & conditions. They are ebay's.
This is just a public messageboard, no one from ebay reads here or not in their work hours anyway, why would they unless they were being paid for it?
The 30 day hold frustrates a lot of new or irregular sellers but it's not as if you won't get your money eventually, if you're signed up to managed payments.
Ebay doesn't want to lose money, that's the bottom line. With infrequent sellers, they are afraid that if the seller gets the money immediately and later something goes wrong (and even after positive feedback, you could get a buyer who soon after strikes a problem) that the seller will disappear with the money and ebay will be left to do a refund or whatever.
Sure, ebay may know your address but the legal hassles in chasing funds makes it not worth it most times, hence the 30 day hold. But you will get your money, so don't fret too much.

Despite it being said more times than you can poke a stick at that this is a member to member forum which eBay neither read nor respond to

Oh, and of course I am also apparently 'gathering information'

·3 years agoOP, sandypebbles is not (to the best of knowledge) an eBay employee, contractor, board member, executive, influencer etc.
The T&Cs referred to are eBay’s.
If you’ve not read the Help pages referring to Managed Payments - every one of them, in detail - you may have missed that unless a seller is selling regularly in quantities that eBay consider adequate, without a break of some months, without a significant change of item type, then eBay will class that seller as a “new seller” all over again. It isn’t a case of start selling the occasional item, build up to a certain level, then you’ve reached the benchmark and you can relax.
eBay are all about risk mitigation and to that extent their bots monitor and analyse continuing seller behaviour. For example, sellers who sell regularly, those with hundreds of sales each week or more, do not pose the risks of hijacked accounts which an irregular seller or long-dormant eBay member would do … while well-established sellers with a good history of selling an established inventory do not pose the risks of fraud or mismanagement which a new seller would do.

·3 years agoUnfortunately I'm having this issue now where my funds are being illegally held for 1 - 2 months, *after* paying the $246 seller fee and completing the transaction. Received perfect feedback, it's under eBay's payment management system which I have used on a number of occasions (items higher value than this one), where the funds were released within 3 days (PayPal prior to that). When I raised the possibility about them illegally laundering my money (based on the feedback I received from Wednesday last week until now) which led me to believe that, they swept it under the rug faster than a house fly. It's just annoying that someone sat there and said 'I know, let's use HIS money to launder' lol.
Personally, I don't think I'll be getting the money for this item so I'll be going to York Street, or George Street, whichever is their head office, at some point.

·3 years agoGuess what, Ebay is fully entitled to take their fee direct from the payment. I am pretty sure they are fully aware of their entity legitimacy, credit standing etc, and are well aware they are able to finace any refund to the buyer if required.

Why is it the same rules/policy that apply to every other 'new seller' in eBay's eyes should'nt apply to you?

Somewhat ironic, considering managed payments was introduced, largely to comply with Anti Money Laundering Legislation.
I take it you are not aware, that there are a vast number of reasons your funds can be placed on hold, and that holds can also be triggered by any number of external agencies.
In your case though, the most likely reason for funds being placed on hold, are you being a new/infrequent seller.
countessalmirena
·3 years agoOP, are you actually registered as a new seller? As in, are you fully verified with both your photo ID and your bank account?

Yep, If you had read and understood the terms of listing and managed payments, then you would have been fully aware that as a new/infrequent seller, your funds would be held for 30 days, with a % possibly held for 60 days.
If you contact ebay CS and politely ask for your funds to be released early, you may be lucky, but it is solely at ebays discretion.
