This may sound like sour grapes, however I don't mean for it to be....
I have decided not to sell on ebay anymore. I am sick of being at the whim of buyers in regards to feedback. I try to go out of my way to describe the items accurately, I don't overcharge for postage, I post the day the item is paid for, I wrap the item as if it has been sold from an expensive boutique (at my cost). The buyer doesn't read the listing and then complains about their purchase. I offer a refund (although it's not my fault) and they give you negative feedback.
I am not a big time seller - just a few things here and there. I predominantly purchase things on ebay. I only have given negative feedback in one instance when the seller outright abused me. I don't buy from people who have been given negative feedback & I hesitate about purchasing from people with neutral feedback. Stupidly, because I assume other people leave feedback like I do.
There should be a better review system for when buyers leave unfair feedback. Me just responding to their stupid feedback is worthless because how much weight do people give my response - of course I'm going to say the buyer was the one in the wrong. If ebay responded, that would be given greater weight by potential buyers.
Anyway - I just neede to vent I guess.
Good bye ebay. My selling days are over.

·12 years agoPlease don't give up. Don't let that buyer put you off. Ever heard the saying "You can't please everybody all the time"?
Well I can tell you there are some buyers that love nothing more than complaining about everything they buy. You have been unlucky to strike one. I know I have struck a few over the years. They never read the listing properly or ask questions, then feel they have the right to complain even when the seller does everything right. They follow this up with disgusting feedback
. I don't like the way that ebay won't let sellers give bad feedback for bad buyers. I guess I get my turn when I reply to their feedback. I can then say whatever i like. I can respond to their lies with the truth and let others decide. Don't stress the feedback. Remember a lot of buyers are also sellers and know how hard it is. There are a lot more good ones than bad.

·2 years agoThis is a 10 year old post but I thought I'd chime in my 2 cents. When sellers could leave negative feedback, buyers were more honest and civil. This system now is an open invitation for fraud and abuse and power is lopsided. I sold way back and left, and am back for a few years and just had my second experience with crooked buyers gaming the system. And got a false negative yesterday from a bold liar who'll probably harvest a part of a $65 vest because he's claiming the part "flew off right out of the bag". And he sells the same brand himself. Guess he needed the part. How can the negative he left NOT be showing on his feedback page? Another way the crooks abusers are coddled and encouraged?

·2 years agoI don't know what it was like in the US, maubrn, but over here, i think some sellers abused the ability to give positive or negative feedback when they had that right.
Plenty of times, I saw sellers who would ding a buyer, t*t for tat.
It was like blackmail, you were scared to give a neg even if you had a legitimate gripe as you knew they may do the same back, for no reason.
I do agree with you that some buyers are out and out foolish with the feedback they give. I've seen neg feedback with a comment such as all good.
In fact, that happened to a seller friend of mine the other day. He contacted ebay and the first person fobbed him off and said no it could not be removed, they were entitled to their opinion.
The next supervisor removed it for him.
Buyers do have the power with feedback but you as seller have the power to refrain from giving any feedback, to apply to get feedback removed if it is inappropriate, but more importantly, you can reply to feedback.
I know in the opening post, the person didn't feel buyers pay any attention to what sellers reply, but I know i do and I bet a lot of other buyers do too, if they look at feedback at all.
You as seller also have the ability to block buyers.
I wouldn't worry about feedback so much as being scammed. If the buyer is angling for a refund, make sure they send the vest back first.
