My son used my account to sell a pokemon card. I've never sold anything on ebay, and had no intention to ever sell on ebay. My son, however, found a way, and now because I have no idea of the selling process I've somehow racked up a bill even though we didn't sell the card. I want to appeal to someone within the ebay organisation to have this fee cancelled on the basis that I was unaware - and my son certainly unaware - of what he had done when he used my account to list the item. Who on earth would I speak to?

I suggest that you change your password for eBay, and log out every time you’ve finished a session. This will protect your son from using the account to do selling, putting your account and funds at risk.
For this instance, can you go to the selling hub in your account and determine whether the item did sell? I do assume it actually sold, and that the buyer paid; payment is now ONLY through Managed Payments. That means it’s processed through Adyen to eBay itself. eBay then takes all associated fees and costs, and the remainder is to be disbursed to the seller as per their chosen payment schedule.
However, the funds won’t be released to the seller unless they are registered for Managed Payments, have verified their bank account (through either the login credential method or the microdeposit method), and have verified their ID (driver licence or passport presented electronically).
If your uncertainty about whether the item actually sold and the buyer actually paid is due to having received no payment, this is almost certainly why.
Because of the considerable length of time since the item sold, it’s clearly too late to cancel the sale. You could have done that post-sale when you were presumably notified by email that an item sold… but not at this stage. I realise that’s of no comfort for your current situation…
I think you’re going to have to pay the fees… unless you can persist with live chat, get to a human, ask for a supervisor, and explain that you have never sold, never intended to sell, and that you were unaware of your son’s access of your account, unaware that anything was listed, and have now taken steps to secure your account… and you are asking for the fees to be dropped in light of no sale having been completed. It’s a bit of a long shot but you lose nothing but time in trying.
Re being refunded for items not as described, I don’t think you can have followed the correct procedure. A return request based on “not as described” means the seller doesn’t get to say “NO”. Seller is obliged to accept return for INR items, and must provide you with postage label (seller is responsible for postage cost), and you must return the item in the same condition in which it arrived. Refund will be actioned once seller receives the item back - or you can ask eBay to step in if seller doesn’t act or agree.

OP1 year agoThank you Casey, your advice was the most helpful. It just seems to be an organisation that runs without humans, or even the possibility of explaining my case to a human. I don't really understand if the buyer paid or not, I think several people may have said they wanted it. This issue has caused more stress to me than the amount owed is worth, maybe I just front up and pay and move on. One thing's for sure, with all due respect to people who know how to work ebay, I'm getting off it. Too many times I've bought and something else random turns up in the mail, and now this little hiccup that stupidly threatens my credit rating. thank you again everyone. Matt

·1 year agoWhen what you get is not what was listed, all you need to do is open and follow through with an item not received dispute

OP1 year agoThanks Sandy, yes this is true. I have previously followed through but to no resolution other than being offered a future discount on another purchase by the seller. There must be honest sellers on this platform, but it also seems to be rife with pirates. Have a great day.

·1 year agoSorry to hear that since that is not how item not described disputes usually work, if the proper process is followed

You could have cancelled the transaction within 30 days and your final value fee would have been refunded.
If the buyer didn't pay, eBay may help you but no guarantees.

·1 year agoYou can try contacting customer service via live chat, but don't like your chances.
You are responsible for the security and operation of your account. Has the buyer been refunded or are they still expecting to receive the card.
Your scenario is a bit different to the toddlers accidenly buying Ferraris etc
