I have been charged for an 'adjustment' without an explanation......please explain.
I can't seem to get through to a person on eBay, so resorting to this. So infuriating! Wish there was another way to sell things in Sydney besides FB and eBay

·Jul 10, 2026 at 9:45 PMI have the same. Weeks after sending an item Aupost have charged me postage again. Saying my item was not correctly paid for in terms of size and weight. No extra info… no means to dispute. Basically using Auspost via eBay gives them a free pass to your card to charge you. This was in the news! They use ai to determine package size and the add charges. They are hammering small business with this and now eBay is allowing them access to my card! This is the end for me. EBay has gone to shit with scammers abusing the buyer guarantee and now they have basically given auspost access to my card without my knowledge.

·3 weeks agoItems in transit via AP may pass through automatic weighing and measuring devices while in transit. If a discrepancy is detected between actual size/weight and that disclosed by the sender, then a payment adjustment will be issued.
If you are dealing direct with AP, you can appeal but will normally require photos to verify your original measurements. Note if an item is measured numerous times in transit but only registers one error, photos etc may not be required. Note on occasions items may become stuck together and therefore multiple items can be scanned as one.
Don't know if there is a means to appeal via ebay labels.

·3 weeks agoI know the process and it in the news that Auspost is over charging people through adjustment to postage fees after the fact. It is also not clear that if you buy postage through eBay auspost can charge your account at will with no recourses. If I can no longer pay for postage in person at the post office … so there is no chance to be overcharged… I’ll just stop using eBay.

·3 weeks agoAs far as I am aware, if using ebay labels and an underpayment is detected by AP. Then the charge is directed from AP to the customer IE: EBAY. and is payable by EBAY.
The EBAY recovery of payment from individual members and means of collection, is a matter between ebay and the individual member and is covered in the agreement between the parties.

Here is an article concerning how businesses are disputing this very process of auspost to recoup “under paid” costs… like me they dilgently weighed and measured thier items yet auspost hit them with extra fees…

·3 weeks agoIf you are using ebays free selling, then you are required to purchase postage via ebay labels, with limited exceptions.
If you have a pro account and are paying ebays selling fees, then you can purchase postage however you like.

This can’t be legal for one company to force you to use the services of another company under threat of having your rating impacted while also granting them carts Blanche to charge you fees that you have no recourse to dispute. That is actually my main concern, I am old and experienced enough to never grant a company access to charge your account withoit explicit approval, which I have not explicitly and clearly granted to Auspost.

Secondly, I suggest you don't bother wasting anybody's time with any meaningless reports. How do you think ACCC would react to a report of a company offering you an option that you personally don't like? This bit is quite clearly a wind-up - or you're just trying to name-drop using an entity which you don't understand to a handful of eBay members who know better and can recognise a rather childish tanty when they see one.
Thirdly, nobody is "forcing" you to do anything.
You have the option of listing on eBay, or not listing on eBay.
You have the option of how you list - Free or Pro.
You have the option of how you ship your items.
With the above in mind, please elaborate on how you think anyone at eBay is forcing you to do anything. Surely you aren't trying to tell us that you're being held at gunpoint and ordered to select selling options which you don't actually want.

·3 weeks agoLet us know how you get on with ACCC, but I don't think they will be interested. Ebay is not forcing you to do anything, you have the option to use free selling with ebay postage, or use a pro account with ebays fees, and post however you like.
You also have the option not to use ebay at all.

·3 weeks ago · Editedyeah agree, but would love their opinion :) suspect they also won’t deal with online… it is what it is. I’ll just stick to being a buyer. Shame as I have been eBay for twenty years. Hopefully someone will develop some viable competition to them! .

eBay do not read here, but nice to know you consider asking other members as a last resort
(You will get far more help here than you will from eBay staff typing from scripts, btw) but we can't just 'guess' when we can't see what you are seeing
What kind of adjustment ?
Did you add a second category to a listing for example?
An adjustment regarding postage?
Members here do not have any way to know what adjustment you are talking about
Is it explained why/what for in your fees breakdown under payments?
If you want a scripted response from eBay, go to the chatbot and type in speak to an agent
