Item sold however buyer won't pay nor respond to any emails
Hello,
I recently "sold" an item however the buyer never paid for it, nor are they responding to any of my emails. I thought they now had an obligation to pay for the item they chose to bid on and buy? What are my options?

·3 years agoI pretty much asked the same thing. I suspect when the buyer didn't pay, she relisted the item (when you look at the sold listing it says it's been relisted), but somehow ended up with a second identical listing for an identical item, just with 2 extra words in the description (pristine condition, which given the bag is meant to be brand new with tags, I would expect pristine condition!). She still has the 2 listings, so probably hasn't been back to read the replies. She's going to find herself in big strife if she's not careful.

·3 years agoYour options have been outlined by other here but in regard to 'obligations', yes, buyers are supposed to pay if they bid and win an auction or commit to buy, just as sellers are supposed to post an item if someone bids and pays for it. That's in an ideal world. But we don't live in an ideal world.
Sometimes people will bid and win and just slink away. It is actually not all that unusual.
There are a lot of reasons why they might do that-change of mind, not having the money in the first place anyhow.
They are online, they can get away with it because after all, without payment they won't receive the goods. It is inconvenient to the seller for sure but you can issue them with a non payment strike and block them.
Be sure you do.
I can see you have not had experience as a seller. Just be wary, especially with expensive items. Back in the day when I used to sell, we quite regularly struck buyers who swore black & blue they had paid into our bank account but they hadn't. I don't know what their game was-whether they hoped we would send it before we saw the funds in our account (no hope!) or if they were stalling for more time.
Your options with a non payer these days are much more clear cut, so as soon as the 4 days are up, lodge a non payment claim & block. Then move on.

I hope you have completed ID & Payment info for Managed Payments. If not you will never get paid. As a new seller you will have a 30 Day hold on your funds as it is.

·3 years agoAs it's been more than 4 days since the sale, go to the item in your sold page and click the dropdown to the left, and select cancel. Then select that the buyer didn't pay. That will give the buyer a strike against their account. If the get 2 or more strikes in a rolling 12 months, they won't be able to buy from sellers who have blocks in place.
To set up buyer blocks, to weed out the serial pests, go here

Scroll down to Buyer Requirements and tick the box to block buyers who have 2 cancellations due to non payment within 12 months (you will probably need to click the dropdown arrows to set the numbers accordingly).
Tick the box to block buyers in a location you don't post to. Turn on to not allow blocked buyers to contact you. Then turn on apply to current and future listings. Then submit.
Also at the top of that page is a link to the blocked buyers list. Add the pest to that list, that way they can't bid on your items again. If you have any trouble with buyers in the future, add them to the list too, separating the usernames with a comma.
As an aside, how many of these handbags do you have? You have one on your sold list for the pest, and 2 active listings. The photos are identical (I'm surprised ebay hasn't ended one listing, because you can't have identical listings). If you only have one bag, you probably should end the other listing because if 2 people come along at the same time and want to buy, you're going to find yourself in a power of trouble when you can't deliver the goods to one buyer.
Edited to add: given you are a brand new seller, selling a high priced item, you are bound to get scammers. Be VERY careful if your bag sells. If you aren't sure if something doesn't sound right, come back here and ask for advice. Make sure you send with tracking, signature on delivery and insurance.
