    NEGATIVE Feedback

Summary: The discussion labeled "NEGATIVE Feedback" appears to lack specific content as all entries contain 'None'. Despite having multiple interactions among participants like blueriverrain, sugar249, springyzone, and others, no details or feedback are provided to analyze or summarize effectively. The thread includes several responses and interactions across various dates, indicating ongoing engagement, but without substantive material to form a meaningful summary of the feedback or discussion topic.

I recently sold an item of clothing that the buyer told me when she received it was in not in new condition as I had stated.
I instantly sent a refund without any question or discussion of what I thought

I asked eBay if they would withdraw the Feedback but they will not do that

I am questioning if you do the right thing and get left Negative Feedback why did I give the refund ? Even though I always have and always will.

i have been selling on eBay for over 20 years with 100 percent Positive Feedback so loyalty dose not account ?

    Hey blueriverrain,

From the date you started this thread, I know I'm a bit late to the party.  But I wanted to belatedly offer you some support in this sea of negativity.

I think you made an honest mistake.  I was not shocked to the core by this because, gasp, on occasion I make honest mistakes too ... of course, unlike the other posters here who are infallible.

When I list I practically go over my items with a magnifying glass.  However, twice this year I had to cancel orders when the handbags I checked thoroughly on listing had issues with zippers when I checked them again before sending.  Hey, stuff happens.

The hallmark of a good seller is in how they resolve problems.  You issued an immediate refund which, IMO, is all you could be expected to do.  I would never have left you negative feedback.  Frankly, I'm not crying a river for a buyer who effectively scored a free top which can simply be tossed in the washing machine.

I see from your profile you have over 14,000 sales, yet everyone here is focused on the couple of items which, according to buyers, were not as described.  Good grief, if that was a reason to condemn a seller, we'd be back rubbing sticks to start fires.  Let's see.  In the past year, Bunnings delivered half of my order of shelves and brackets.  JB Hi Fi sent the wrong season of a TV series.  One of the flatpack bookcases I ordered had holes drilled too shallow so a huge chunk of MDF broke off when I was assembling it.  Need I go on?

The point is [almost] everyone makes mistakes.  If a seller rectifies the mistake, we're good.  I think negative feedback is useful when a seller is willfully deceptive or shows a pattern of carelessness.  Perversely, some of the worst sellers are the least concerned about negative feedback except in the unlikely event ebay intervenes.  For example, there are still many sellers doing a roaring trade in pirated Taylor Swift CDs with complete immunity.  Speaking of which, as Taylor would say, "the haters gonna hate [so] shake it off".

The OP was complaining about a deserved neg. No amount of touchy-feely will get the neg removed.

The OP is complaining about a specific instance, which other members responded to. All the rest is fluff.

I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree about whether the neg was "deserved" although I do agree ebay won't remove it as it does not violate their policies.

I don't agree either that all the rest is fluff.  A seller who has notched up 14,000 sales with barely a blip on the radar is IMO doing a stellar job.  I would think any retailer, online or otherwise, would consider that an admirable record.

I also think a buyer who would neg after receiving a full refund is suffering from a terminal case of first world problems.  These days feedback, Google reviews and the like are simply used to air petty grievances.  They're not weeding out the truly rogue sellers who will accumulate red dots until ebay finally shuts them down.  An hour later they'll reappear under a new ID and carry on as before.

Note to mods - no seller information identified

"sellers who will accumulate red dots until ebay finally shuts them down"

Sadly, I doubt eBay shuts down any sellers these days.

A couple of us saw this recently and this time I'll pretend  that something may have happened to the seller.

( feedback shows refunds from eBay indicates otherwise)

    Current status  15.3 %

    354 negs

    16,000 items still  listed

It's been reported over and over and nothing's been done.

Not sure of what the relevance this has to someone getting a neg because of the inconvenience they caused to a buyer for selling smelly stained items.

But anyhow it would appear Ebay have sadly removed the neg.  Not sure why they do that,  but lets hide what some sellers do.

Yes, what a dreadful inconvenience to have to wash a FREE top.  Perhaps blueriverrain should have paid for a dry-cleaning voucher and a taxi to take it to the dry-cleaner too.

But, never mind, for once ebay saw good sense and removed the neg.

Yes, for sure a negative can sting if you are a seller who aims to do the right thing and who feels they did the best they could to fix a mistake.

All the seller can do is learn from it and move on.

Many buyers never check feedback at all before buying anyway. We on the boards know that for a fact. And I think, for those buyers who do look, they are able to see any overall pattern. If most feedback is overwhelmingly positive, it won't stop them buying.

How a seller responds to a negative or to a mistake can count too.

In this case, it is clear the buyer was given a refund.

If blueriverrain felt the need to reply at all to the feedback, all she would need to say is Sorry it happened, it was an honest mistake and as soon as she became aware of it, she issued a full refund.

Not sure how you can claim a smelly , stained item listed as New is an honest mistake.  Surely you would notice it when taking photo's, listing and when packing.  Honest !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I think you would notice this if you gave an item a thorough examination.

that's why I said in an earlier post that an item should never be listed as new unless a seller knows 100% for sure it is the case.

I think it is possible though for people to miss stains, although under the arms is one place that should be checked, for sure.

I think this incident highlights something that blueriverrain should take onboard and that is, items need to be properly examined before listing. This is at least the second time she has been taken to task by buyers for listing something as new when it obviously wasn't and in fact had faults. It isn't good enough to just put in a listing to contact her if there are problems or if she gets things wrong.

That in itself is fine but it doesn't absolve her of the responsibility of checking listings first so mistakes are few and far between.

I do think blueriverrain thinks of herself as an honest and trustworthy seller, I think that is what she aspires to be and that is why the negative hurt. But she needs to take more care before she lists.

    Hi

i took the buyers word and gave her a refund, I should have had the top returned to check for myself

When I listed the top it was not smelly and I thought it was new

i checked through this buyers Feedback that she had left and even though she has not been on eBay  for very long she has left quiet a few  Neutral and Negative Feedback replies.  Seems to be a pattern there !

     Regards

I find most of my returns are because I sent the incorrect replacement part and it does not fit. By the buyer saying this they don't have to pay the return postage and the only way to stop this would be to offer free returns.  Luckily for me they always give a positive feedback even though I sent the wrong part because it does not fit and you may have just been unlucky with this customer. But I find it does not hurt sales having a negative and so far today I have no sales and I have 100% at the moment.

Funny feedback I read sometime ago was a seller got a negative because the part did not fit the buyers vehicle. The seller replied they never said what vehicle the part fitted in the listing.

Yes, once the buyer complained you would have been much better off to send a postage label through and to refund on return of the item.

That would have enabled you to re-examine it to see just what the problem was. Or how bad the problem was.

Mind you, there would not be much you could do about it at that stage, even if the problem wasn't as bad as stated.

But it would be good for you to have that chance to look at it again.

I think though that as you have had 2 similar types of feedback in the last 6 months (the earlier one was a positive feedback but mentioned a rip in the lining), it is an indication you need to examine items extremely carefully.

You say you thought it was new. Back in the day when I was selling with my sister, there were a lot of times we had items we were sure were new in the sense of unused or unworn. But we never listed them as such. We always listed as pre owned in as new condition.

Unless you know 100% for sure they are new and unworn, don't risk listing as new.

And if buyers do contact you about a flaw, ask to see a photo if possible, before you rush into refunds. Not that you could with this complaint in regards to smell but if I had been the buyer, I would have at least been sending photos of the 'huge stains' as evidence.

Some items can get a slight musty smell if they have been stored a while, even if not worn.

You did the right thing by issuing a refund promptly, which shows your commitment to customer satisfaction. While eBay's policy on feedback removal can be disappointing, your long-standing positive reputation speaks volumes about your reliability as a seller. Keep focusing on providing excellent service, and hopefully, future transactions will reflect your dedication and integrity.

Feedback is just a person's perception of how the transaction went. These days, it has widened to include what the person thought of the product as well and whhether they were happy with it.

I am not sure, but you may not be selling your own items. I think if you had been selling your own top, you would know if you had worn it or not.

I used to sell many years back and clothing was something we sometimes listed.

But never as new unless we knew 100% for sure it actually was unworn.

People are all different and some people are happy to buy lightly used clothing, others will only buy new.

But I can guarantee that anyone who buys something listed as brand new is going to be mighty peeved to find that it wasn't.

How they react, it could swing either way. I know you feel you refunded immediately so it should be positive, but that doesn't overcome the fact the buyer feels your ad was totally inaccurate.

The buyer states they initiated a return so even if you had not refunded, I think ebay would have forced a refund anyway.

I thought the feedback was detailed and accurate enough. There would be no reason for ebay to delete it, in fact it would be wwrong of them to, in my opinion. Some buyers may have decided to go with neutral or positive, but if they gave positive, it would be only to report they got  a full refund.

The onus is on you, as seller, to be accurate. If you have clothing without tags to sell, you need to examine it very carefully beforehand for faults & you'd be better off listing an item as excellent condition instead of new unless you're sure of your facts.

I am not someone who hands out negatives or neutrals lightly either, but there is definitely a place for them in feedback or reviews. There's no point, otherwise. People go to read feedback to get an honest description of the transaction.

    Loyalty does not count.

Feedback is the buyers' perceptions of the transaction. Despite being refunded, the buyer did not receive what they thought they ordered.

No,  you sent an old smelly item and claimed it was new.   Buyer was inconvenienced,  well deserved negative,  just because you refunded doesn't justify doing the wrong thing,  they shouldnt have had to ask for a refund for you doing the wrong thing.

    Hi

We all think and live our lives differently ! I did not intentionally set out to make an error when I was listing themtop, I made a mistake. I honestly thought it was new

I  have been selling on eBay for over 20 years and have always been able to resolve all problems that have come up.  I  always admit if I make an error in my listing and have it written in my listing “ to please contact me if I have overlooked a flaw etc “

I have always found people to be understanding in the past
i have never left Negative Feedback as you never know what is going on in peoples lives, and
everybody makes mistake !   Thankfully there are other members of eBay who think like me

The truth of the matter is :

Having sold for over 20 years -  one would think you would know if an item could be described as NEW - or otherwise.

    It wasn't.

And to boot - ' please contact me if I have overlooked a flaw ' - good grief.

Really, 20 years isnt an excuse for selling and listing smelly items, and than give yourself an out by saying its the buyers fault for not contacting you because you have some silly fine print, saying they should contact you if you made a mistake in your listing.

Obviously the buyer didnt think like you and gave a negative

Unfortunately refunding or otherwise resolving a buyers issue, does not eliminate the possibility of -FB being received.

The  -FB received does not breach FB policies and therefore ebay have no reason/option to remove it.

    Sellers can't leave negative feedback.

If you properly inspected your items before listing there wouldn't be any undescribed flaws.

The buyer wasn't happy, they gave you a warranted neg.

But OP does leave false positives,  they think non payment is a positive experience

Did I sell an old smelly item ?

Checking the feedback left by the buyer to seller she constantly leaves negative or neutral feedback ?

So was it a mistake (three actually) as you said first, or is the buyer a serial neg giver

And if they are, why is that worse than you leaving false positive feedback for non-payers, which only encourages them to continue doing it so they can not pay and collect green ticks?

I would definitely say - NOT.

Given the number of items sold - and we all know what some buyers are like - rather than a change of mind - it's easier to complain & get a refund.

How easy for an item without tags - which a lot are listed as - but new & never worn - be described by a buyer as used.

I'm happy the neg was removed.
