So I presume everyone received the email re the new extra small satchels. Just wondering if anyone has been able to find the dimensions, as I've been totally unsuccessful.
I also asked at our local PO this morning and they know absolutely nothing about them and haven't even heard of them. TIA

·1 year agoMakes it hard to use them from the inception date. Typical AP - squeeze the life out of small satchels first. 90% of my parcels will go in an XS Satchel

·1 year agoIf your items are under 250g you can use the XS rate in My Business Post using your own packaging 1 July.

·1 year agoI'd be interested to hear if anyone has used the ebay XS today, to see if the price is still $8.55?
ramcycle2010
·1 year agoYes, I have, it's still $8.55 today and yesterday

OP1 year agoI could be wrong, but I thought parcel price increases usually happened later in the year. (October or November?)
I do know that all letters are increasing in cost in June. So they're double dipping this time.

·1 year agoI just received this email from Aus Post for all users of MyPost Business...
New Extra Small padded mailer and 250g domestic parcel rate option
From 1 July 2025, we're introducing a new Extra Small option for Parcel Post and Express Post in retail and MyPost Business. For Australia Post packaging, a new Extra Small padded mailer will be available as part of our flat rate range, so you can send up to 5 kilograms within Australia. If you're using your own packaging, a new postage rate will be available for parcels 250 grams or less.

·1 year agoOh...and of course the annual price increase...😖
The following price changes will apply:
These adjustments will help us manage rising processing and delivery costs while continuing to provide a sustainable delivery service. We're also investing in new facilities nationwide, increasing our parcel efficiency with automation, and creating market-leading digital experiences for parcel receivers.

·1 year ago$9.70 for 250g isn't much of an offer 😢
davewil1964
·1 year agoStill better than $11.15.
The AP mailers don't seem to be available as yet.
grannytakesatrip17
·1 year agoHow comes that everyone is saying to ignore the 250gm because it can hold 5kg please?
lezned-toycollector
·1 year agoProbably because they are for items up to 5kg and some stock has a misprint of 250g, as others have already stated
jwilk18209
·1 year agoDBM. Mistake.
pnc75
OP1 year agoYes, despite what ebay says, I'd be reluctant to take the risk. AP is usually (well, always) pretty strict.
lezned-toycollector
·1 year ago🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That's absolutely hilarious.
If AP are strict, then wouldn't it lean towards them complying with the advertising they have on their website?
If you honestly believe they're so shonky that they resort to false advertising, then perhaps you shouldn't use any of their services at all.
Thanks for the laugh, though.
davewil1964
·1 year agoAP also explicitly state that the XS mailers can contain 5kg.
Still not available to purchase pending the AP implementation.
I asked AP when they would be available. It seems to be too hard.
domino-710
·1 year agoSeems the 250 thingy was a misprint.
But go figure - up to 5kg in a satchel - whose internal measurements = 270mmx180mm. 🤣
pnc75
OP1 year agoCan someone please confirm if they have 250 g limit printed on them? TIA.

·1 year agoCan someone please confirm if they have 250 g limit printed on them? TIA.
Yes, the ones I have do:
It's a misprint though...
From the eBay listing (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/156809961000 😞
"Please note: eBay mailers can hold up to 5kg for flat rate postage. Please be aware that some stock may contain a misprint displaying a weight limit of 250g. Rest assured, you can still use these mailers to post items up to the 5kg limit without any issues."
brickworksmarket
·1 year agoI'm not sure if you could find something to sell on ebay that would come close to 5kg that would fit into the satchel. My heaviest item that will fit is 1.8kgs.
brickworksmarket
·1 year agoSatchels I ordered arrived today just in time to use 5 of them. Saving just over $25 in postage so will be a cheap month for postage cost.
bikeden
·1 year agoRead eBay's carefully crafted release and you can assume this service will be rolled out nationally by Australia Post soon, eBay appear to be getting their branded satchel's first:
"For a limited time from 30 April 2025, eBay sellers will have exclusive access to Australia Post's brand-new Extra Small Flat Rate Satchel service"
davewil1964
·1 year agoThat's the way I read it.

·1 year agoThis is an eBay money grab designed to increase their postage labels revenue. It is aimed at inexperienced, infrequent and extremely low volume sellers - i.e. those who would be on AP Band 0 or AP Band 1
Given that the extra small satchels are only available through eBay postage labels, I see no personal benefit from them whatsoever. In fact, if one considers cost vs benefit, the service is actually waaaay overpriced.
There's also the wording of "prices start at" to consider. This indicates the quoted price applies to "Zone 1" deliveries.
So using simple math...
eBay label:
Extra small satchel $0.25
eBay labels "prices start at" $8.55
Total "from" $8.80
AP Band 0:
Small eBay satchel $0.15
Postage labels "prices start at" $10.95
Total "from" $11.10
AP Band 1:
Small eBay satchel $0.15
Postage labels "prices start at" $9.86
Total "from" $10.01
AP Band 2:
Small eBay satchel $0.15
Postage labels "prices start at" $8.21
Total "from" $8.36
AP Band 3:
Small satchel $0.15
Postage labels "prices start at" $7.67
Total "from" $7.82
AP Band 4:
Small eBay satchel $0.15
Postage labels "prices start at" $7.12
Total "from" $7.27
AP Band 5:
Small eBay satchel $0.15
Postage labels "prices start at" $6.57
Total "from" $6.72
Therefore, a seller on Band 2 or higher will actually increase their postage cost by using the new extra small satchels, while redirecting a significant amount away from their total spend with AP. This could possibly result in the Band dropping a level and therefore increasing their AP label prices.

·1 year agobut you have to use eBay labels........bulk edit your postage costs......to gain what?
pnc75
OP1 year agoThey only cost $8.55, as opposed to $10.95, unless you're a My Post Business customer in which case postage would be less than $10.95 depending on which band you're on.
twyngwyn
·1 year agobut it's a trial period.............what happens after that?
davewil1964
·1 year agoExactly.
The email said I could purchase the satchels directly from AP. Nothing showing in AP.
As it is stated as an exclusive short time offer I think I will wait until I can use MyPost Business to use the facility.

·1 year agoAnd the catch is the padded mailers will cost $9.95 for delivery. So serious bulk is required to make them viable. A 30 pack would be $16.45 - 55c per mailer, which brings them up to small satchel costs with any level of MyPost Business discounts. Another win for eBay's bottom line.
curraone
·1 year agoWell hypothetically(?) prepaid small satchels are $11.
The new flat rate extra small satchel will be $8.55 plus 25 cents to buy the satchel = 8.80
so a saving of $2.20 for your customers.

·1 year agoThat will fit a lot of my books, but I am loathe to use eBay postage. I guess I'll wait until they are general issue.
