Hi,
just received a link from a prospective buyer.
said he was a newbie and I needed to change my settings
seems like a scam, I obviously didn’t click the link

·2 years agoIf you have your Buyer requirements set like this, maybe that's what your newbie means?
I clicked on the link and it went nowhere.

You should never click onto a scam link. It went nowhere…? But what did you download onto your computer without knowing? The website paying-settings DOT info is not part of eBay, even though the link includes eBay DOT com DOT au as a subdomain designed to trick the unwary.

·2 years agoI don't normally click on scam links but I was happy to take the risk with this one. Norton takes care of anything dodgy on my devices.

·2 years agoNEVER EVER click a link or open a document from a source you do not 100% trust. And even then don't do it. Any message representing your bank or other trusted person or institution always assume it's fake and then contact that party back via their KNOWN phone number.
Clicking on this link may appear to go nowhere. that's not the point. The point is a hacker can use that link (or a document) to insert malware inside your device. They may be key logging you, getting your passwords and all other vital information.
I'm shocked you, or anybody else would click on a link like this. If this is as it appears then your device is almost certainly compromised.
EDIT : And NO, Norton does not protect you from this. Desktop anti virus software is of limited value and certainly does not grant immunity. I have 20+ years in the Cyber Security industry, and comments like this are grossly inaccurate. To people reading this - your best defence is ZERO trust of incoming messages. Treat them all as fake and validate any that appear of concern by calling the person or company. NEVER CLICK a link or open an email attachment.
And people wonder why they get hacked and have their bank accounts cleaned out.

OP2 years agoG'day, mate! Sorry to bother ya, but I've been havin' some trouble tryin' to buy somethin' from your store. I reached out to your customer support, and they said there ain't no issues with my account. It seems like the problem might be on your end, 'cause they mentioned there's a setting that stops new users from buyin' stuff in your store. Since I'm new to eBay, that restriction's affectin' me, and I can't buy what I want from your store. They suggested I look for another seller or pass this link along to you so you can tweak the settings and let newbies like me make purchases. Just copy and paste the URL into your web browser.

·2 years agoYou could do one of two things, either put them on your exemption list or just block them.
I would tend to go with blocking them I think, they could be trouble down the track. But it's up to you.
