    Payments on hold

Summary: The discussion, initiated by 220928357, addresses the issue of 'Payments on hold'. Responses from multiple participants, including bestbits2, davewil1964, *casey*, and sandypebbles, are present, suggesting a dialogue around this subject. However, all participants have not provided any specific content, leading to an unclear resolution on the payments issue.

After a break and not selling on ebay for a few years I have started again. Received this message on the 12th March

We've detected unusual selling activity on your account. To maintain marketplace safety, funds earned from your sales will be available for payout within 3 days after delivery confirmation of the item. After we’ve seen ongoing confirmation of successful deliveries, you’ll start receiving your funds again 2 days after the buyer pays.

I have plenty of questions but ebay refuses to answer them, no one will say what ebay wants to see as ongoing conformation of successful deliveries. All I keep getting told is if I dont send with tracking then I will not be paid for 31 days. Has anyone else been in this situation and found a solution. Ridiculous to expect items to be sent with tracking when to do so increases the buyers cost by 500%. No one wants to pay $10 postage on a $5 item when it can be sent without tracking for $2.

Having been selling on ebay for 18 years with around 1000 feedback and 100% buyer rating this stings.

I have spent hours in their chat I have got no where, they simply keep pushing I must send items tracked.

Despite feedback like these in the past few weeks since I started selling again the payments are still on hold

"Quick fast delivery!! Card in great condition😊"

"A hard to find card, very satisfied with the purchase. Card was exactly as described, packaging was great, Good value and fast delivery."

"Card was received in excellent condition. Very happy! Well recommended."

I keep getting told that it is not conformation of delivery it is just feedback and does not mean anything if there is no tracking.

I am at total loss as to what ebay want to see before removing the hold and returning to payment 2 days after purchase.

"After a break and not selling on ebay for a few years I have started again

Having been selling on ebay for 18 years with around 1000 feedback and 100% buyer rating this stings"

Which makes absolutely no difference as transaction hold apply for ALL new or infrequent sellers and have done so for years.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/help/selling/getting-paid/getting-paid-items-youve-sold/transaction-holds?id=4816&srsltid=AfmBOooc10tb3IRte5jOsG4b5UzKzDAIwAa9atvncUeQpRgGugzx25pK

eBay do 'occasionally ' release a payment early when the buyer's left positive feedback but they're under no obligation to do so.

I'd advise you to NOT follow the advice of

"If the buyer pays for untracked and you send untracked ebay can go and bother Aus Post for confirmation, it's not your job to confirm anything"

Take a video of every delivery that falls into a post box. You will have recourse if anything goes wrong.

    or

    "Sellers are not postage services.

Your resposibility is to post the item, not deliver the item.

Their responsibility is to pay for an appropiate postal service, they pay for traking they get tracking, they pay for untracked they get untracked".

or  you may find your 'return to selling' short lived

    Don't let ebay bully you.

I had the same situation on another account seldom used, I just waited until ebay staff came back from their annual leave and their coffee breaks, eventually they released the money.

If the buyer pays for untracked and you send untracked ebay can go and bother Aus Post for confirmation, it's not your job to confirm anything. But this is too simple and logical for their staff to understand.

Ebay want to see quite a few transactions from you before they will start putting trust in sellers paying fees for ebay's rent/staff/pow wows/perks for their staff/share holders.

Take a video of every delivery that falls into a post box. You will have recourse if anything goes wrong.

That's what the customer paid for, that's what they requested in checkout, that's the service I gave them, after all that's what they wanted. They cannot argue against logic.

How do you propose AP verify delivery of untracked items?

By definition they are untracked, unscanned and no notice of delivery can be obtained.

Videos mean nothing, so no recourse.

Do you actually understand how online selling works, much less how it applies to eBay?

That's the whole point, it somehow got lost in the translation. If ebay want tracked then take away the option.

Don't just give us lip service, we require this we require that jump through this hoop etc.

Videos mean nothing, so no recourse.

Haven't lost a case yet for item not received with videos taken, after having spoken to ebay I know a bit more than I used to.

If you only knew how much has gone through my combined accounts over the years, but then again what do I know?

After half a day on ebays chat finally requesting a call back today and an hour on the phone I still do not have and answer. It seems no one in the customer service department actually knows much at all. I did get a mention of 10 tracked sales but that was about it. Given 70% of my sales are untracked regular letters I dont know where that leaves me given ebays own help articles state:

Holds won't apply to orders where the selected delivery option was local pickup or one of following services:

    • Australia Post Domestic Regular Letter Untracked
    • Australia Post Domestic Priority Letter Untracked
    • Australia Post International Economy Sea
    • Australia Post International Economy Air
    • International Economy: untracked

Also interesting ebays updated terms coming the end of april that mandate ebay postage for everything actually have an exemption for magazines, comics trading cards coins and orders under $20 value.

It very much appears a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.

casey provided a factual answer above

And gave you the direct link

That is the policy, so yes, you do have an answer

Up to you if you wish to waste a day contacting eBay hoping to hear something other than facts

You stated yourself in your post, you had a break from selling for 'a few years'

Instantly you are seen as a 'new' seller by eBay

I sold for as many years as you did with a couple of thousand positive feedback

IF I still had my selling account and went back to selling today, the same holds would apply to me

I certainly would not expect anything than the policy I agreed to when I listed

The person who replied they 'had the same situation on an account they seldom use'

Of course they did, that policy applies to all sellers who don't sell in a long time

The reply after yours was what I was actually trying to find, could not and no one from ebay could give me or tell me where to find.  My grip was not the hold I understood why it was in place, the reason I was **bleep** was because no one could tell me or point me in a direction to find what is required for the hold to be removed.

"It very much appears a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing"

No doubt reading from a script and are very confused about all the new rules

The changes are all discussed in this link so best to keep it all in one thread.

    https://community.ebay.com.au/t5/Selling/More-unwanted-enhancements-coming/m-p/2645558#M242186

They've actually changed the  information on the 'transaction holds'  page

    https://www.ebay.com.au/help/selling/getting-paid/getting-paid-items-youve-sold/transaction-holds?id=4816&srsltid=AfmBOop1Lou-95lMT00cf2YzZOyfdQu9xGGQPMQem4K6S4elGPp_5A_8#criteria

While not necessarily relevant to you, they 'may' have just picked up the '10 sales' from this, for the new free selling, working towards a 'module'' !

If you see the Qualify to get your funds faster module in the Payments tab of My eBay or Seller Hub, your funds will typically become available within 48 hours of the buyer's payment once you meet the following criteria:

At least 10 completed sales with a combined total of AU $150 or more within the last 5 years

    • We'll only count sales that didn’t have a refund, return, chargeback, cancellation or case
    • We'll look at all sales 5 years from the current date. For example, if it's 6 March 2026, we'll look at sales since 6 March 2021
    • We'll add up the subtotal for each sale (item price + postage costs) to work out the combined total
    •
    •
    • We won't include any additional fees or taxes that the buyer was required to pay at checkout
    • No more than 2 open requests, cases, or transaction defects in the last 12 month
    • An open request or case is when a buyer reports an issue with their order that hasn't been resolved yetWe count a transaction defect when either of these things happen:
    • The seller cancelled the order unexpectedly (e.g. because it was out of stock, or because they sold it to someone else)
    • eBay reviewed a case and found the seller responsible

Thank you that is what I have been trying to get but no one at ebay could actually give me or tell me where to find.

Well past the 10 sales and $150 value in the past few weeks but many are untracked items, I am guessing they will not be counted until 31 days after purchase if at all.  Only a few tracked items from the 10 total so will see what happens in the next week or so and if the transaction hold is removed.
