I haven't been selling for a while and have just seen that the last item I sold for $25 with $10.40 postage had FVF charged on the whole amount of $35.40 This does seem a little unfair

·2 years agoThe best approach to postage is going to differ slightly for each individual seller.
For some sellers, ridiculous as I may consider it, free postage works as a gimmick to attract relevant buyers. For others, combined postage with a flat cost above a certain amount spent is a good incentive. Still others will simply charge what they are charged. It depends on the sort of items being sold, their price, whether a buyer is likely to buy more than one, or on an ongoing / repeat basis.
But one thing is certain. Sellers must make a profit overall. If the postage you specify is going to leave you in the red when you take into account the FVF, do some calculating. You may have to increase your postage price, item price, or even both.
Getting an AusPost MyPost Business account is - from what I’ve read on these boards - a more cost-effective solution than buying the labels on eBay. Ask AP about options and prices.
Some sellers resort to Sendle (courier brokers); anecdotally this is a courier solution that enrages and frustrates many buyers. (It’s fair to say that some buyers don’t mind Sendle.) Just read the many Sendle threads on the boards to get a variety of views.
Those Final Value Fees are unavoidable; always include them in your figuring and price-setting.

No seller here thinks they should be paying FVF on Postage BUT like others have stated has been like this for a long time, so it is one of the practices that you will have to adjust to in your pricing to cover that loss.
Now that you have returned to selling here you will probably find a few other new wrinkles along the way.
Just have to adjust.

·2 years agoPlease don't talk for others, I am a reasonably busy seller here and I happily pay FVF fee's on postage. It stopped the rip off merchants who would sell a product for $1 and postage was $100.

·2 years agoCall the ACCC. That's usually what people want to do when something is "unfair" on ebay. Oh wait, they approved it, so cancel that idea.......

·2 years agoThis has been the case for years, for a couple of logical reasons:
1. eBay encourages sellers to use free postage. If the FVF was only charged on the sale amount, then sellers using free (included) postage would be disadvantaged.
2. If the FVF excluded postage, unscrupulous sellers would sell an item for $1 with $100 postage (as as example).
We may not like it, but it's the way it is, and treats all sellers equally, regardless of how they charge their postage.

·2 years agoHas been the case for at least 10yrs. FVF applies to the total invoice, shipping, taxes, etc.
All approved by the ACCC.

Makes zero difference if people think it is unfair, it is what it is, how it is and is'nt going to change
