There is at least one seller on Ebay Australia who has tens of thousands of listings for printed photos sent to people from images about everything you could possibly think of including alot of celebrity photos. It annoys me because it clutters the site, i go to search for a particular celeb for magazines etc & hundreds of these listings pop up by default if i don't enter the sub category.
But the main point is, alot of the images, actually probably most of them would be owned by Getty Images etc. They also sell stamp prints clearly images owned by the designer. How on earth could a seller get away with earning money from such a blatant breach of copyright?
Whats strange to me is they have about 98% positive feedback, so most people are happy to pay for this rather than find an image off the web & get it printed.
Anyway as i replied to another post, i can no longer find the report listing button on desktop site. And i'm guessing seller may have already been reported before to no avail anyway so would be a waste of my time.

If this is the seller with (91265) feedback , their feedback is awful, 97.1%, 448 negs and 491 neutrals
But still given the title of Top Rated Seller, One of eBay's most reputable sellers, Consistently delivers Outstanding customer service.
There should be a limit fgs, this seller has 1079, 252 items listed - well over a million !

no it's a seller with 389401 fb & rating of 97.9% positive fb (meaning its gone down since i first posted. lol) They only have about 438k items listed lol. Sold 185K items since March 2016. I wouldn't say any rating of over 97% is terrible though, i've seen alot lower than that.
It is utterly ridiculous for anyone to have that many active listings let alone for dodgy items. I'm not very good at math but would think that the amount of sales compared to listings might not be very profitable for Ebay. On the other hand that's an average of 18k sold listings per year, but they have the cost of all the listings sitting there on their servers, that part must be quite cheap for Ebay then *shrug*

it's not so bad on the desktop website but on the ebay app slower to go in & put in the category i'm searching in, along with the stupid defaults of searching worldwide instead of just Oz, that's why i hardly ever use the app.

wow, that's even worse, so very many items listed by one seller. It's one thing to have a few items breaching copyright that's not really hurting anyone but another to make thousands of $ off it.
i'm going t report them to Getty Images & am reasonably confident they will act. I remember many years ago reporting pirated dvd listings to ebay numerous times over about 6 mths. Which i did because i was selling legitimate dvd's. They never removed them, that is until 'someone' reported them to Universal Studios, Paramount, Sony etc, then hundreds of them were pulled a few weeks later. It may have been others reporting too but i like to think it was all my doing lol.
Sometimes it pays to make an extra effort 🙂

I don't think ebay pays overly much attention to reported listings. Sometimes it will act but it can be a slow process.
On the other hand, once you bring the big guns into the legal equation-big companies with the funds and ability to cause trouble-they are much more likely to act.
Obviously, for ebay, if this seller is managing to sell thousands of items, it probably seems worthwhile.
But it reminds me of something I had happen to me years ago. I was looking for a doona cover, not too pricy as it was more for house staging, so i decided to look on ebay.
But the exact same 3 or 4 covers (which i didn't like) just kept coming up over and over and over. All different seller names but same covers, same prices too but it was the mid price range I was looking in so couldn't exclude it. It was restricted to aussie sellers as it was.
I just gave up in frustration, clicked out, went to Spotlight and other sites.
This flooding doesn't happen in every item category but it does for some.

OP6 months agoIt definitely happens for clothing, hard to search for 2nd hand stuff wading through thousands of listings. You have to be very specific about what you want to buy & even then jump through their hoops specifying what size, Aussie seller etc. I've mostly given up on that too.

·6 months agoYes it does happen to some clothing items. I tried buying bathers for a granddaughter & noticed the same thing.
All I can think of for second hand items is to tick the 'used' category, but it does become tedious when you can't save a type of search with your set parameters, that will pop up next time you're looking. If Realestate.com can do it, ebay could too. As in, ask customers-do you want to save this search category?

·6 months agoThe main problem here really is that it is making it hard for you to search through listings for what you might want. You are lucky in that at least you can fix it (by the sounds of it) by entering a sub category.
As you have discovered, ebay is unlikely to do much about it but when this sort of thing happens, it can be a huge turn off to buyers.
Yes, you can refine a search by price etc but that may not always help.

OP6 months agosurprise lol, i got a msg from them about 10 minutes after reporting the item 'We looked into your report and didn’t find the listing to be in violation of our policy. This determination was made using automation or artificial intelligence. '
Well their intelligence is pretty dumb because i'm pretty sure Getty Images would think it is in violation.
