Selling a cheap item in your listing

I see a lot of people seling a random item in their listing for example a blank shirt and mark it as the cheapest item amongst say a funny graphic print shirt for sale in the same listing. Is that allowed?

Yes it is frustrating when you search for an item by price and the 1st 10 items show picture and a price for what you are looking for but when you go to purchase it is some cheap accessory and the actual price is more than normally listed items.

The ACCC says:

Businesses mustn't mislead consumers

Businesses should be honest in their dealings. Businesses shouldn't try to gain an unfair advantage by making misleading claims about their products or services.

It makes no difference whether a business intends to mislead or not.

Information must be accurate and truthful

Any information or claim that a business provides about its products or services must be accurate, truthful and based on reasonable grounds.

This includes:

Information on prices
images and descriptions of what is offered
claims about the value, benefits, qualities or performance of products and services
shipping options and delivery times.

This rule applies to any communication by a business, including through:

advertising
product packaging
a quotation
any information provided by staff, whether verbally or in writing
social media
testimonials
websites or any other platform.

Any statement that creates a false impression about goods and services can be breaking the law.

So report the listing that is against eBay policy (after actually reading the policies) And if the seller is registered overseas, forget the ACCC (the A stands for Australia) Better yet, stop supporting dodgy sellers, which is who a vast amount of your feedback is from)

If a sellers listing appears on ebay australia then the ACCC rules apply. It does not matter where they are registered. Ebay clearly states it is the sellers responsbility to make sure they abide by all the relelvant laws which apply to the country where thier listing appears. if the buyer complained let say to the ACCC who then took action that would be a different story altogether. Ebay states in thier user agreement that they may have to take action ...including....according to relevant laws

Obviously.

It's called variation listing. There are many extant threads on the general boards explaining how it works.
