Selling and getting paid used to be easy!
Summary: coorella expressed frustration over receiving an email from a platform about unusual selling activity after selling an item for the first time in years. They were confused about payout delays and the process of Managed Payments. Other participants, including e_purchasing and springyzone, explained the current procedures and the need for Managed Payments enrollment, mentioning a 30-day hold for infrequent sellers. After some back and forth, coorella confirmed they were eventually paid, recognizing they had previously signed up for Managed Payments, and apologized for any earlier outbursts.
Just sold an item and I got an email with this intro:
"We’ve detected unusual selling activity on your account. Funds from your sales will become available for payout 2 days after delivery confirmation of the item."
How can there be unusual selling activity? This is the first item I have sold for years!
And it goes on:
"To get access to your funds faster, we recommend good selling practices such as adding tracking information to every order, sending your items on time, and proactively responding to buyer concerns."
But I have only just downloaded and printed the label so how can there be any tracking info yet?
The buyer has not raised any concerns.
And this is on top of the 10+ dollars I have to pay for "buyer protection". Have never had to pay this before.
And the only contact seems to AI - which will just lead down endless rabbit holes no doubt...
Is this just the way eBay is now???

OP2 weeks ago · EditedWell, after all, the money was paid - took about 5 days in all, and I was able to request it. Another day or two and it should be in my bank account.
I must have registered for Managed Payments when first warned about it years ago, and just forgot.
What a life lesson - keep calm and carry on.
Thanks all for the suggestions and help and again apologies for any offense taken when I lost it momentarily.

You say you think you are signed up, the ebay human seems to have verified that if he said you would get paid, and you ask if there is another way to know if you are actually signed up.
The sellers in here may be able to point you to specifics, but are you able to access the seller hub at all on your account?

OP3 weeks ago · EditedYes, I can and the sale is listed there. In the Payouts tab, there's a message "payouts to your bank account ending in XXXX will be delayed for up to 48 hours". I did notice a 1c transaction in it.
As I haven't done this for a long time, all this stuff is new for me, and finding info I want is a tedious process of suck it and see for now...

OP3 weeks agoThanks - have read that a few times now. I am not getting any "banner to verify my bank account"
But I think I have already signed up in the past and just forgotten, as I have a payout bank account and payment credit card already. If that's not sufficient and there's another way to know it you have signed up, I'd love to know.

·3 weeks agoSandy is right-sounds as if you gave not specifically signed up for managed payments.
With this, my understanding is that when a buyer pays, the money goes to ebay and you then set up details within managed payments for it to be transferred to you.
I think you can set up the frequency of transfers, eg every week, daily etc
I could be wrong, I am no longer a seller.
But if you haven't set something like that up, then ebay has the money but no directions on where or when to send it.
Why on earth ebay allows sellers to list in the first place if managed payments are not properly in place, I do not know, but they do. There are regularly people who come to the board mystified about why they cannot get their money after a sale.
Yes, you'll start talking to a robot on ebay help but persist and you can eventually get through to a human if you need to ask questions.
Or look through the help guide and follow instructions.
Take it carefully, don't overly worry as once it is done you'll be able to access your money eventually. But do not assume ebay automatically joins you up to managed payments, you have to do it.
Also, as a new seller (someone who has not sold regularly in a while) your payment will probably be under a 30 day hold. That happens to all new sellers so don't be alarmed. Once you build up a regular sales record, it is dropped, but if you just sell occasionally here and there, it will apply to every sale.

·3 weeks ago · EditedApparently you did not notice that many people do not use their selling ID to post on the forum with (as recommended by eBay)
FYI I joined eBay in 2005 and had close to 2000 feedback (mostly selling) before I stopped selling
Since you choose to call me a bot or troller, I will know not to waste my time on you again in future
My profile here is private, my profile here on this forum has nothing to do with my selling history on my selling ID. Makes as much sense as saying someone's Facebook profile is private so they must be a bot
Since you find factual information not helpful. the best idea would be for you to contact eBay, who will from a pre-written script tell you what you want to hear

OP3 weeks ago · EditedOk, sorry. I edited the post straight away as I had written it in anger.
But so far no-one has managed to tell me how to sign up for Managed Payments or how to check if I am.
I managed to chat with a eBay human, who told me that as I have a bank account for payment I will be paid.

·3 weeks agoManaged Payments did not exist in 2017 so you could not have been, and would still not be signed up
Not being signed up, plus not having sold in ten years would and should raise alarm bells with eBay
For some unknown reason, eBay allows those who have not signed up to actually list things, but those people will never be paid

·3 weeks agoHave you signed up to Managed Payments? If not, you will never get your money.

OP3 weeks agoI have a bank account for payouts and a credit card for payments?

·3 weeks agoHave you signed up to Managed Payments? It is a specific requirement, and has been for many years

OP3 weeks ago · EditedHow do I do that?
I listed some items recently so I must have signed up then, or been signed up already?
Last sale I made was in 2017.

·3 weeks ago"This is the first item I have sold for years!" , well that is unusual selling activity. You could easily be a scammer who has hijacked someone's account in the eyes of eBay.
"on top of the 10+ dollars I have to pay for "buyer protection"." Buyers pay that not sellers.
The email provides best selling practice so meet that and all is OK
