Something weird going on last few weeks on Ebay with views and sales
Summary: eskays15 started a discussion about unusual activities on eBay affecting views and sales over the past weeks. kerryn1979, among others, engaged in the conversation, but the discussion content was not provided, leaving the context and solutions or insights unknown.
Has anyone else seen a weird unusual decline in views and sales last few weeks ?
January was quite solid but i've noticed hardly any activity on my store past few weeks.
I still upload a 2/3 new items every day as normal but have had hardly any activity which seems out of place for my usual activity.
Anyone else feel the same ?

·8 months agoSales are non-existent on eBay, it's been almost two weeks since I sold an item. Before this quiet period they were selling at a more steadier rate. My guess is the local AU inflation problems and rate hike combined with rising AUD against USD (my #1 market).

·8 months agoI have also experienced a dramatic drop in sales in 2026. I have 620 listings currently and the only thing I have changed is to declare that I will not despatch to USA. The reason for that is that I will not get involved in the stupidity gnerated by that country's imposition of duties. However, I do not think that can affect my sales overall. In Australia there are some cost of living challenges but not of a magnitude that would stop people from buying on ebay. It feels like ebay has made a policy change or amended the visibility of listings but I have no specific indications of anything like that. Ebay's income must also have dropped so I hope they are on the case and can find a solution.

·8 months agoAre you comparing to previous months or same period last year. Some items fluctuate at different times of the year
Last I checked I was down 30% compared to same time last year.

·1 year agoI have for the last 6 months it's gone dead and at the same time you're talking about I noticed if I look at an item some have an ability to send me an offer without me even watching the item which I find intrusive, so I think some sellers are definately getting unfair advantage or preference. I'm looking at other options especially with fees being charged on postage which is not provided by them, I deal directly with Aus Post, and can't be legal. You can't charge for something you're not providing.

·1 year agoI figured it possibly had something to do with the new promoted listings 2.0 thingy. All my items are promoted at 2% but yeah my sales are down heaps too.

·1 year agoThe auction item mentioned in previous posts ended up with over 100 views and 14 watchers. It sold with two bids for around $160 so bidding did not reflect interest. All up I have had my best week for many months but it is related to buying a lot of high quality stock at garage sales over the long weekend and doing around 70 new listings for the week. Sales have still been very strong over the last couple of days but i,m constantly listing new stuff. 16 new listings today.
It seems there are still buyers out there for the rare stuff, but i,m working it fairly hard to keep the sales ticking over. My listing numbers are rising rapidly to sit around 25% higher than normal. ( Currently 2500 listings compared to 1800 - 2000 normally ) A sign not everything is selling.

·1 year agoI'm a little bit down, but still making regular sales.
As previously noted, maybe it has something to do with President Musk taking a chainsaw to the world economy.
The ASX has dropped significantly over the last few weeks also. Indicative?

·1 year agomy sales have plummeted especially in the last two weeks. I list 5 to 10 items every day and used to get at least 2 or 3 sales a day. im now only getting 1 or 2 sales a week! I thought it was just me and that i was doing something wrong.

·1 year agoI reckon sales is impacted by the weather event.

·1 year agoSales have been a bit soft for a few weeks for me. I suspect Trump has got the whole globe spooked. Couple that with Albo dithering over the election date and the Cyclone affecting the eastern seaboard and its not surprising things are quiet.
My Post office reports the same thing as others have mentioned. Mail throughput has slowed quite dramatically since January, so not just an ebay problem.
I did pick up a rare collectable at the garage sales yesterday. Listed it for auction around an hour ago for $150. ( cost me a couple of dollars ) Its had 8 looks and 3 watchers which is pretty good when compared to the other 40 auctions I have listed this weekend. ( only one bid so far on the other auctions ). Shows there are still a few people interested in the rare stuff and something must be working on ebay.
chameleon54
·1 year agoThe item has had 19 views in 12 hours so the system seems to be working fine. My other 40 auction listings the last couple of days are running at 0-3 views for 12 - 48 hours and there is some pretty reasonable stuff amongst that lot.
It shows there are still buyers searching ebay for the really top shelf, rare stuff, but not so interested in the more mundane stuff they can find reasonably easily. In other words they are just being very picky.
chameleon54
·1 year agoHalf way through a 3 day auction and the item has had 60 views and 5 watchers compared to 1-8 for most of my other 40 auction items. I havnt had a response like that to an item for a very long time and shows there are still people looking on ebay. You just need the right items. Photo to save the usual regulars claiming BS.

·1 year agoI sell vintage and collectables, and sometimes hit upon a desirable item. Back in the day – maybe 15 years ago – I would list something at auction and suddenly overnight it would have a HUGE number of page views, sometimes over 100. I remember asking about this on the old Power Sellers Board, and it was suggested that it was because someone had put a link to the item, or the item itself, on some specialist collector’s page on the Net – I suppose these days it would be Insta or Etsy or some such. Then everyone who accessed that page would be counted as a Page View. I had no idea but it seemed to make sense.
It was somewhat annoying because although the item usually sold, it did not always translate into the bidding war I was hoping for. These days my auctions rarely attract more than 30-40 page views (and of course mostly far fewer.) I just put this down to eBay not being the “go to” site for vintage and collectables it once was. Bidding wars are mostly a thing of the past, but still occur often enough to make initial listing at auction viable for me.
I do hope that all those page views and watchers turn into a profitable bidding war for you.
chameleon54
·1 year agoYour suggestion sounds reasonable. The item is in a specialist field which has a small group of hard core collectors who would be very active on specialist sites. The number of watchers does not really correlate that well with the views either, further suggesting people are having a look, rather than intending to bid.
The item is a vintage, very high quality, Australian made, specialist item that was competing with mass produced items from OS. It is not in my usual field of buying, but I was aware of the hard core collectors in this field. It was purchased with several other mass produced items and while I didnt actually know the significance of it when purchasing, I grabbed it and stuffed it in a box as an afterthought as I could see that it was different to the others and very well built / high quality. The mass produced items are worth several hundred dollars with the box full of stuff costing $5.00 at a garage sale.
It highlights the importance of spotting quality and something different even when you don't know much about what you are looking at.
I'm not holding my breath on a bidding war as the economy is very tight, but it is certainly an interesting, ebay case study when things are much quieter than normal.

Yeah, this is getting ridiculous now - apart from everything else, since yesterday, numerous storefronts (including my own) are having trouble loading. It seems to be across the whole platform, on all devices, and the glitches could be reason why listing views and sales have been way down for weeks, with reports of people having trouble with search engines, etc. So the normal traffic just isn't happening.
Typically, eBay have said bugger all about it - just the usual 'we'll elevate the issue to the relevant team'.

OP1 year agoYeh I actually noticed yesterday the app wasn't working properly at all for quite awhile not displaying anything.
It's become a joke really.

·1 year agoThe strange thing is the overall sales for a particular item are not reduced. But I can see all the major sellers' number are declining.

·1 year agoQuite a few other people have come to this board asking the same or similar thing, so it must be affecting a lot of sellers, I would think.

·1 year agoyes, exactly the same happening here. This week no sales, only a couple of sales each week for the last few weeks. wonder if Amazon is taking over all the customers or eBay is not doing enough promotions/marketing.

·1 year agoThis downturn isn't just an eBay situation - it seems to be the whole retail economy. When I popped into the post yesterday afternoon, they had just 8 larger parcels to be collected and the two big bags of envelopes. There's usually 40-50 boxes and 5-6 bags. That's a huge drop, and it's happened relatively quickly, keeping in mind that when people don't buy, they also don't return.
Look at the shops - most are empty of customers; and those shops that have been up for lease for over a year or more? They're not getting tenants anytime soon. The stock-market has faulted now, too, losing all gains since Trump and Musk started up and going backwards.
We won't see the official retail figures for February until Apirl 1st, but you get the sense they will be ugly and the March figures will be worse when we add the Queensland storms. That's very close to a recession, for retail at least, leading into an election.

·1 year agoI have been selling with physical shops since 1970 for 38 years & now since 2008 only online & whenever an election is near, sales drop off the cliff, but in saying that it depends on your product. After the elections no matter what the result sales begin to pickup again.
cinemascope2014
·1 year agoYes, January was a solid month of activity, but views and sales have declined rapidly, especially from overseas, since early Feb. This past week has been the worst in memory.
Back to school, cost-of-living, upcoming elections always are a factor, but I think you can pin-point it to the day to when Trump and Musk started up the chainsaws, and there's a very good chance tarriffs will be added at some point this year to sales to the US. With such doubt and uncertainty, people close their wallets.
The local post office is also reporting the same thing - overall packages have declined each and every week, both incoming and outgoing, since early Feb.
Sadly, this feels like the new normal for quite some time.

·1 year agoYear to date (Jan to current) our Ebay sales are up 27% on last year. sales conversion up 0.5%. Hard to get YoY figures for views and impressions. but overall Ebay appears healthy from my POV
kerryn1979
·1 year agoYes I’ve experienced exactly the same thing! I even phone eBay help yesterday to check everything was ok on my account. I was told other sellers had enquired about the same. It just seems very weird as sales have been very high during January and dropped off a cliff about 10 days ago. I usually sell at least, and I’m lucky to sell even 1, several days in last couple of weeks have sold none at all. Something that hasn’t happened in probably years. Also the number of watchers is right down as well. So far I’ve not been able to find out any reason why this is the case.
