Sorry, yet another question about these ebay extra small satchels.

Summary: The conversation revolves around clarifying details related to eBay's extra small satchels. grannytakesatrip17 initiates the discussion with some queries and curraone responds, followed by contributions from additional participants like twyngwyn, domino-710, and mousmaid. twyngwyn seems to provide information in multiple exchanges, aiding in addressing the original questions. The thread spans several days, indicating ongoing engagement and follow-up by participants like grannytakesatrip17 and others, aiming to resolve the doubts around these satchels. The interaction remains focused on gathering information and understanding the specifics of these items.

Hello all you good people 🙂

Please bear with me here. I apologise as I normally use prepaid Aus Post satchels, so I am somewhat confused.

I purchased $60 worth of these satchels as I assumed that anything which would fit in these would qualify for the ebay postage labels priced at $8.55. all over Australia.

Last week, I sold a small item which was about 5 cms thick, and when I went to purchase a label, it came up at $10.50. There was a box above, asking me to measure the item.

So, I decided to skip this and just posted it in a small prepaid satchel, because I couldn’t be bothered messing around.

So my question is as follows, is there a maximum thickness which you can put in these satchels, does anyone know.

As far as I can see, nothing is mentioned on the package.

I, perhaps wrongly assumed that it would be treated in the same way as a small satchel, eg you can pack anything in so long as it is not in excess of 5kg.

I know that some of these satchels are marked as 250 gms, but that is basically a mistake.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

    Thank you.

I asked my LPO about these new XS satchels only yesterday (23 June 25) and was told that they do have a maximum weight of 250gms, (that's not an error on a new APO product) unlike the other sizes which are all a max of 5kg. (If you see weight indication on newly purchased satchels sizes S to XL, they are old stock the outlet is selling, showing the old limits), When I used APO branded satchels, not eBay branded ones, I do NOT use the eBay postage labels as they bear additional costs calculated by eBay's AI, I hand write the buyers detail on the satchel or on one of my own boxes. I select 'flat rate' option when I make the listing and enter the cost of the satchel/box I intend to use, I'm usually fairly accurate due to long experience. Hope this is of help.

The truth is the extra small satchels/padded mailers have a maximum weight of 5kg - despite the 250g misprint. Like it or not, that's a fact.

Using your own packaging only allows you up to 250g for the extra small rate, but AP flat rate products allow up to 5kg.

I would report that to Australia Post so your post office can get sorted out.   It is definitely wrong information.

With the best will in the world, counter staff often have no idea what’s going on (though Managers obviously should.)

I struck a new counter person the other week; they refused to lodge my pre-paid letters with tracking, because I had removed the back tear-off (“sender to keep”) which I was presenting for hand date franking. They said they had to remove the completed tear-off themselves so they could check that the address on the front of the envelope was the same. I didn’t bother arguing with them; I just stood aside and waited until one of the regular staff was available. Fortunately they only seemed to be filling-in for that day.

Having looked at your listings - most of which need ' boxing ' - what are you actually sending in small satchels. ??

Some small items, eg Netsuke. These are very small, I wrap them in bubble polythene and then safely in cardboard. Normally they then go into a small prepaid satchel, which is a dreadful waste of space.

They are 5-6 cm thick when packed. I have never had a breakage.

I don’t think Netsuke would survive an xs package…just my opinion

Look how much extra packaging you can put into a satchel.

Choose one of you own items (not listings) of a similar weight/shape and post it to yourself…you’ll soon see if the packaging is good enough for your customers

In ebay labels:  you have to be careful to tick Aust Post packaging to be able to see the option for the extra small labels for $8.55;   you just have to be able to fit your item in the XS envelope

Aha, thank you so much, I notice that it says x7cm, also 5kg.

So is 7cm the maximum thickness?

I need to try to practice on some of my listings, I guess.

Is there a way to do this without having sold something, I wonder.
