Why I rarely sell on ebay any more.
I just sold an item on ebay for $150 and ebay I am only getting $127 for it. There is remorseful buying, now I have remorseful selling. Back to Facebook marketplace. I don't know why I tried ebay again after being away for months. What a sad system. If I sold a $20 item, the fee would be far less. The cost to ebay to sell a $20 item versus a $200 item is the same. It doesn't cost more for ebay to list a more expensive item. Enough is enough.

·1 year agoThe question you need to ask yourself is this: Would it have sold for $150 on marketplace? Would it have sold for more than $127?
My experience with marketplace is a lot of buyers try to beat you down on price. Some never show up.
And many expect you to be on 24/7 to answer their queries.
It can be a hassle.
As far as ebay goes, you can look up the selling fees beforehand and work out what they will be. That way, you can set a price you'll be happy with, after fees are paid.
You're basically paying ebay a commission. If you sent your items to an auction centre or if you sold your home, same thing. The commission is based on the selling price.
No one enjoys paying fees but what it comes down to is where do you think you can get the best price overall for your item? Marketplace or ebay. The answer won't be the same for everyone or every item.

·1 year agoEbay is not the place for the occasional / infrequent seller. Selling your old jousting sticks or coffee machine is best done elsewhere.

·1 year agoYou are aware of the fees before you agree and list the item, so you did not have to go ahead if you did not agree
As, as you admit yourself you have been away for months, so you will be considered a new seller and your funds will be on hold
Hopefully you at least completed sign up for Managed Payments and were verified to sell
Really no need to tell other members you are going to sell on scammer's wonderland instead though, up to you were you sell

·1 year agowith eBay being a company with employees and shareholders, they need to make a profit.
Charging sellers the same fees for selling a $20 item as for selling a $150 item would not work.
Was your $150 sale the $266 listing with best offer? If yes, and wanted to clear $150 after fees, you should not have sold it for less than about $180.
