Return post labels - rip off

I sold a pair of shoes and accidentally typed one of the sizes incorrectly so the seller wanted a refund which is fair enough.
I charged $15 to post. I had to purchase a return label at $17.78 but when collecting the shoes today noticed they were sent in a small post satchel which cost $11.70.
It doesn't seem you can get a refund although ebay would know how much was charged as the package had a tracking number. Does anyone know if you can?
The shoes were only sold for $12.50.
Lesson learnt. Not really worth the effort of putting low value items on ebay

OP5 days agoI know I made an error but was hoping someone was kind enough to provide me with details on how I can receive a refund from ebay re them overcharging on a return postage label. When I purchased the label there didn't appear to be a option to make any changes. I have never had a return before so this process was new to me.

·5 days ago · EditedIf you are within the 5 day limit, cancel the return label you generated. The 'buyer' obviously used their own postage instead of the label you generated.
HOWEVER, what difference does it make? You were prepared to pay $17.78 to get a $12.50 item returned to you.

·4 days ago · Editeddavewill1964 has told you, exactly what I see - the buyer did NOT use your label and instead used and paid for their own return. If 5 days have not passed, cancel the label otherwise eBay will eventually credit the full $17.78 as the label was not used

OP4 days agoThe returned package did have a label on it that looked like a return ebay label and I doubt the buyer would pay for it herself.
So looks like a return ebay label was used but ebay charged for a large satchel $17.78 but it posted in a small satchel. All I was asking was how to obtain a refund on the excess postage charge.

·4 days agoIt is just logic , eBay labels operate on a "pay on scan" system. If a label is not scanned, you don't get charged. The amount is likely on hold until it scans or x number of days

I believe your information is incorrect.
An unused eBay label needs to be cancelled within 5 days to receive a refund.
Occasionally eBay 'may' make an exception to this if they're contacted through Customer Help.
Otherwise, eBay does not eventually refund the money.
