I heard Tony Windsor this morning talking about the idea of a referendum on gay marriage.

I have absolutley nothing against gay people, gay rights or gay marriage. Love is love.

I would be interested to know why the against voters are against gay marriage though! 😉

Even if I didn't agree with Gay Marriage I would vote for it, it's beyond me how you could be against it unless it was compulsory.

I agree, Jane, I'd like to know, too. But, it's early days yet.

I'd like to see gays having absolutely equal rights to straights. I don't see how gay marriage could harm anybody else.

I just voted (For) and I couldn't believe the results - seriously, 56% against?

I just don't understand why folks would be against two people who love each other and are committed to a life-time together wanting to marry. Why would you want to deny them that? Who is it hurting?

I totally respect the ideals of marriage between a man and a woman... I understand how some see it as a religious event that creates a union between the two.

BUT.. I looked at it like this and my opinion changed for against to for.

I don't believe in marriage.. I don't mind the idea of a civil union... a commitment ceremony between two people that makes it legally binding for financial and other reasons... I would never get married in a church...

If I can be united with someone in a civil ceremony and it still be labeled as married then why can't same sex unions?

If they can sort of make marriage as a huge umbrella that can take under it's wing civil unions, same sex unions and traditional marriage then why not.

I think people that get married are suckers anyway... lol.. if more people want to tie themselves together in that manner then let them..

Well, that happened in France, but not, I think to a great degree (although even one attack on gays is too many).

Well, IDTPA, I'd be interested to KNOW. The main reason people give is that "a marriage should be between a man and a woman for historical reasons" ... but there have been many marriages between men and women where the spouses have had relationships with others of the same sex ... in other words, people have used marriage to indulge in same sex relationships.
