Why do people feel the need

to make jokes about guys wearing kilts?

My 13 yr old son donned his Dad's kilt for a formal dinner at scouts tonight.

The scouts were fine - the worst comment was "really A, really???"

But one of the Mothers thought it was fun to refer to him as a young lady! X-(

By the way he looked absolutely stunning, but I am biased. 😉

As long as your son was OK with wearing the kilt who cares what the silly mother thought.

Obviously the need is there. 😞

But next time you see a guy wearing a kilt, try and think how you would feel with smart alec jokes being made about your clothes all day.

My husband gave up wearing it as people would make jokes and actually run around trying to look under it. Harmless fun to those doing it, humiliating and degrading to those receiving this "fun"

It was thanks. A friend dropped off my older boy after his Taekwondo class and commented how nice it was to see young kids dressed nicely and well behaved. Given she is a high school teacher, I was very impressed with my scouts. 🙂

I'm glad he had a good time at the end of the day that's all that really matters. Sadly Kiwi some people just don't think about their comments 😞 How sad your OH had to put up with such appalling and ignorant behavior. I hope both he and your son can be proud of their heritage regardless of what others do and say:-x

good on your son 🙂

My son and his mate (both have Scottish background) wore their fathers kilts to their yr12 graduation dinner. I was extremely proud of them both for showing pride in their herritage, and showing respect for their fathers.

my son is 6'2" and his mate is taller than that!.... dont think either of them got picked on! LOL

I have a lovely photo of them both standing back to back. 🙂

Kiwi, did you say something to the Mum ? I would have called her on her behaviour and done it in front of the other parents. She is setting a poor example to the other children and should be called out on it.

I am not surprised he got teased - kid's will tease about something unusual or what they don't see as the normal thing.

BUT by an adult (another parent) X-( What ever happened to leading by example.

You are no doubt proud of your son for being proud of his heritage and rightly so.

Unfortunately (or fortunately??) I didn't hear it, he told me about it.

I was kind of expecting to have to pull up one or two of the kids for teasing, but nobody got teased at all. Not A and not either of the kids who didn't have formal clothes to wear so came in uniform. :-x

Had I heard it I probably would have got myself in trouble or been ignored.

At 13 - 14, I'm surprised the other kids didn't laugh... perhaps they didn't because his mother was there.

I realise your son is only 13, so please don't misconstrue. But I think a man in a kilt is dead sexy. The way it swings when he walks pushes my buttons, thats for sure 🙂

I agree with the appeal of a man in a kilt.

He is an early bloomer so at 13, he looks like a lot of men do about 18. He definitely suits the look of the kilt. And several of us embarrassed him last night by telling him he could have his pick of girls if he wore it.

scouts aren't neccessarily angels. i was a scout 🙂 like any boys they give each other hell.

wearing a kilt is asking for it, despite how good it can look.
