The old ''Bring in the armed forces'' trick

Some may remember the last time the opposition had to formulate 'something' to deal with problems in indigenous communities.

known as The intervention" disgraced Ashby plotter and former Howard minister Brough took charge and brought in the army.

well we all know how well that went .the net result of brough's 'intervention' amounting to a show and little more.. Now, faced with another problem that seems beyond them, that is.. managing asylum seeker arrivals.. what do this sad bunch of gits offer up as a Policy ? why, they dress it up as a military operation.. in conjunction with customs and Dept of immigration. this is pretty much as we have now so it isn't new or innovative .. its a knee -jerk panic move , more slogan than action which simply by existing and having been announced demonstrates that even the coalition have doubts about the discredited policy of Towback they have pushed for years now..

its an admission that previous policy was carp. unfortunately , so is the new policy.

Just another three-word slogan.

If you haven't noticed, Abbott cannot speak, whether reading or not, without stopping after every three words. Apart from being excruciating to listen to, it is embarrassing that a person who would be PM cannot speak in a flowing way.

So, 3 words is what we must have.

My husband put a steel helmet on and drove down to the beach to make sure nobody was swimming ashore, this is very serious

BUT as a West Australan I think we do need a bigger navel presence off our shores, wonder how you guys would feel if these boats were landing on your shores? FFS one got in as far as geraldton!

Everything that these blokes ( Abbott , Morrison and Molan ) carried on about is already being done by the neccessary departments> The Navy, Customs, etc under the leadership of Border Protection Command. Established in 2005

Why is Molan getting involved. Arent Militarty personnel supposed to be impartial and not have a political view on matters of government?

Will there be Operation Sovereign Borders Campaign medals ?

This seriously has to be the worst case of One Upmanship I have ever seen on Australian Television.

Not only has Julie Bishop bad mouthed the Indonesian ministers it now appears the Co-olition have virtually told the PNG Prime Minister he is a liar also.

This is going to end badly, and I hope this ridiculous heavy handedness from Abbott and Morrison will come back to haunt them.

A National Emergency.................... seriously, The amount of asylum seekers arriving in the last five years would HALF FILL THE MCG........ a national emergency. HARDLY

operation look more serious than the other guy there is something major missing that i noticed in Abbotts policy, its only a little thing.. a destination.that would be a thoughtful inclusion.

i hate both policies personally, but if you support the idea behind the policies there doesn't seem to be much choice..

in the days of hawke howard and keating the coastline used to be patrolled by 2 Orions.. one would fly one way and one the other .. around the australian coast. they used to wave as they passed going in opposite directions (somewhere roughly north of darwin if i remember correctly) i doubt the navy has the capacity to up the level of surveillance from where it is now without affecting other operations long-term. they could for a while, but more ships don't come cheaply or in a hurry so its hard to see it happening in any real or sustained way.
