Pixi Fotos placed in administration

Pixi Fotos have gone broke. Placed in administration with the loss of 300 jobs. Kiosks in Myer, Kmart and Target were closed today.

Shame for anyone who has paid for photos or has a gift voucher.

End of an era. They've been around since 1971. Another business lost.

I feel for the workers who have lost their jobs. Also the parents who may not get their photos or can't use gift vouchers.

So many options now with digital cameras for people to take their own photos.. these can be printed in big sizes at photo places and printed on canvas etc.

Personally, I never found Pixi photos to be that good.

Their photos were not the best, especially in the last few years.

It's such a shame for all the staff, but with today's technology they're pretty much redundant now

Yes, it is a shame for the staff. On the bright side, however, there are hundreds of young mums advertising photo sessions on facebook at any one time. It's just changing times and redundant business models.

So Kevin Rudd is to blame is he? I didn't know he invented the camera in smartphones. And this from the man who has ambitions to be our next treasurer.God help us all.

What do you mean by insane costs!! What a ridiculous statement. Pixie were the cheap n' nasty of the photographic family portrait industry. It was basically the biggest 'sausage factory' in the name of photography not for art but purely for money which for years was a bug bear in some way to pro photographers (even though some may deny this). Yes, it is sad when a business shuts it's doors and it's ripple affects hurt staff, their families and the whole chain reaction down the line. The digital age has ushered in a revolution and made a huge change to media and the way we percieve it's value. The pro photographer was once considered an artist and producing beautiful imagery was like magic where as much of the public perception now is so focused on price and because everyone has a camera of some sort thinks they are a photographer. I ask the question: If you had a scalpel in your hand, does that make you a surgeon?? Think about it....

I got a photo of my 13yo done when she was a baby and they cut off her ear in the photo and she wasn't looking at the camera. No wonder they went broke providing a shoddy service.

My daughter was told a good 6 hours after it was announced in the media that they had gone into administration and she was out of work as a result. Her boss called her as soon as she had hung up from a conference call which is when management were told. Way to run a business hey! Her boss was in tears, she's a few months into her mortgage.
Business is business, we all know that their product was sub standard to put it mildly.....but dd has walked away with invaluable insight into how not to run a studio, which was the exact thing she had hoped to come away with. The thing is.....the writing had to have been on the wall for a while now.....and still they were blindsided.

Staff knew without doubt for the last few monhs that the co was in big trouble.
Over a year ago when staff resigned they were asked to take their entitlements in installments.
The big surprise was it lasted as long as it did. The part that I cant get my head around is that senior staff that knew the end was near kept telling the staff that things were good when they were questioned.
