Kevin Rudd has been campaigning in his home state with the message that Tony Abbott will be another Campbell Newman. Let's hope so.]

By Kevin's own measure of success - jobs - Queensland is now the national star performer.

Latest figures show Queensland has gained 18,500 jobs, with unemployment falling from 6.3% to 5.9%.

In just 17 months the Queensland LNP Government has reduced taxpayer debt and expenditure by cutting into dead wood and bloated bureaucracy, creating an environment for growth.

With lower debt there's less need to gouge the taxpayer and business, where money is needed to invest and grow. Business confidence is up.

When confidence is up, investment and jobs follow.

Labor on a State or national level is historically infamous for spending, debts, deficits, and ultimately inventing new taxes (carbon, mining) or removing business tax concessions (vehicle FBT) to fill its expanding budget holes.

Previously, fiscally vandalised states were led down the road to debt and deficit by Labor Premiers, John Cain - Joan Kirner (Vic), Bob Carr - Morris Iemma - Nathan Rees - Kristina Kenneally (NSW), Peter Beattie - Anna Bligh (Qld) and nationally, by Prime Ministers Whitlam, Hawke - Keating, and now Rudd - Gillard - Rudd: the political juveniles.

It's always left to Liberal rationalists to come in to clean up Labor's mess: Jeff Kennett (Vic), Barry O'Farrell (NSW), Campbell Newman (Qld) and nationally, John Howard - Peter Costello and Tony Abbott - Joe Hockey, if they win the September 7 election: the political grown-ups.

Rudd can no longer warn the country Abbott is another Newman, because that's what the country is crying out for.

Business at a national level is stagnant, as it was in Queensland, as it was in NSW, as it was pre-Kennett in Victoria. Business needs grown up leadership and responsible policies, not selfies or nursery rhymes read to 4 year olds.

Scott Haslem an economist for global investment banker UBS said last week that Queensland was the nation's "standout" performer. Commonwealth Bank economists highlighted Queensland's "buoyant" conditions.

These results have blown out of the water the Rudd-Wong-Bowen shrill cries of an Abbott 'slash and burn', 'cut to the bone' and 'austerity' program. Jobs grow from less tax and less debt and deficit. Just look at the mess in the socialist European countries.

Tough love and discipline is the only real option on the road to recovery.

Economists also warn of national unemployment trending to 6% as mining slows.
