The big whie paper was a bit confusing

I chose to vote 1 above the line and was scanning across looking for Liberal.

The 3rd or 4th one along was' Liberal Democrats' and i was gonna put a 1 under them but didnt recognice the "democrats" part of the name so luckily, i had taken a 'How to vote Liberal' paper from a man outside and i checked that and it said nothing about Democrats, so i looked further along the line and there was 'Liberal' alone right at the end.

I do wonder though, how many Liberal voters may of put a 1 under 'Liberal Democrats' accidentally

I know the Liberals at our polling place were telling people, I didn't want the "how to vote" paper, but they said if I was voting Liberal above the line that they were at the end.

The big white paper was about a metre long but the booth was only .5 wide!

Well as I am not very political I do wonder if anyone numbers all the boxes underneath. All 1- 83.
I was gobsmacked at the size of it, just about tripped over it walking to the booth, had it curling up the walls filling it in then had to carefully fold not scrunch to dispose of it.

As most of them are illiterate and base their vote on the lies Rupert Murdoch has told them, many of them may of (sic) put a 1 in the wrong place on the big whie (sic) paper.

When I went to vote the guy marked my name off and passed me the forms and told me to put a 1 above the line. I saved heaps of time by having my preferences saved to my phone so got all the boxes numbered below the line accurately. He also didn't ask me if I'd already voted.

Just googling, I see that NSW had 110 below the line. It makes our (QLD) 82 look like a picnic.

I did, because no-one tells me how to vote. I decide for myself.

I numbered them all at home, and just transposed the numbers on to the ballot paper.

there were lots of people that did the Lib Dems instead....

big mistake but I don't think that it was enough to impact the vote... the aec must do better next time.

I think it is more the wording of the party....

Palmer for example could not use United Australia Party because it was taken elsewhere and could not be used Australia wide and would cause confusion... (I think that is what is was called)

the use of the word Liberal was argued that it was too close to the Liberal party.

The elderly had a very hard time this election... the papers were big and very confusing... as a scrutineer in nursing homes I was given permission to help some that wanted help to fill out the papers as the white one was so big. I saw it first hand and we didn't have the Lib Dem problem so put those two things together and mistakes happen.

Yes, the United Australia Party was the original name for the Liberal Party, and that's why Palmer was not able to use that name.

Now I do agree that people in nursing homes should have it made easier at voting time. They should be able to opt out much more easily than is the case now, (unless they are determined of course). They have done their duty to the country.

I think the elderly still want to vote.. one lady said she was voting until the day she dies.. lol

I met many who's family had removed them from the roll without their permission thinking that going into a nursing home seemed to deem them incapable of voting... they put themselves back on as soon as they found out.

I think the nurses at the homes are very helpful when it came to sorting out the ones that didn't want to vote.
