It's a bit creepy

That eBay or Lithium know how many messages I've read. (It's catalogued in your Statistics page).

I guess that by messages they mean posts, as I haven't received close to the number of PMs that they say for them to mean I have read that many of those.

But Crikey! How do they know if I read a post, scrolled past it or even read the same post a few times?

More importantly, why do they bother collecting this data at all, far less reporting the results to me?

seeing I leave it logged in and the computer is on from morning till bed time even when I am not here its going to be really useful info LOL

They do tend to log us out often now, I get so sick of haveing to log back in 10 times a day

Well I just read my OP 3 times - bet they wouldna known that if I didn't tell them!

And, I'm gonna pretend I didn't read DLA's post (that was a scary thought, but I wonder if it just counts how long you're logged in for rather than the time you are actually perusing the boards), so there's one post they prolly reckon I did read, but they can't prove I did, can they?

If you look at the bottom left of every post it tells you how many times its been viewed, I bet they know from your IP exactly who has viewed each posts

Each post has a different amount of views on it!

And what if there are 3 posts in one screen, how do they know how many of those I read?

I'm saying they can't possibly know this stuff, so why even bother recording it? It's simply not verifyable,

And then you have to account for the threads that get opened where your not taken to the last post read (sometimes I am and sometimes I'm not) and you have to flick theough a few pages to get there - they can't count if ya didn't even take a peek at them!

on my browser i got my antivirus set up to 'do not track' which shows me who is blocked

at the moment i dont see anyone tracking me on the ebay boards

It's good you no longer mind.

I seriously doubt the mods would follow any member around and I know they're not permitted to give kudos. I also doubt they'd be interested in individual stats or what we view on CS. After all, they wouldn't be employed if they were creepy like that....and especially given that most of CS would be old enough to be their mother, or grandfather lol
