They say that the cost of a free society is eternal vigilance and I see a lot of strange things listed on here but I don't really give a toss anymore since I got a threat of being banned for mentioning specific items on this forum. However, I just came across an item I have to mention (not in specifics) that just made me laugh at how ignorant the eBay hierarchy must be and how they tick-off the people that only want to make eBay a fairer place to shop.

The item is a 5/8 spark-plug socket in 3/8 drive, that is listed in auction format with a start price of 99 cents with a standard postage of $18. The postage is listed as a 3kg satchel for a 200g item......... talk about laugh!! I wonder what the eBay fees on that is?

I see this fairly regularly, but who cares?

How was that moderators?

I believe I can top that story!

I currently have had an unpaid item dispute opened against me on another account. Not warranted, but here is the story.

Seller REFUSED to send me an invoice so that I could pay for this item, the postage was not specified on the listing so cannot pay for this. After repeated attempts to get the seller to send me an invoice, I finally get sent a cancellation on my item. Hmmm, I want the item though and want to pay for it.

So I declined the cancellation request.

The seller then immediately relisted my purchase item, it was a unique item by the way and something that no other seller on ebay would ever have. The item was relisted as a buy it now at a higher price, not by much though, and it SOLD to someone else.

Another day passes and the seller sends me an unpaid item dispute to pay for the item?????

I rang ebay, who said the seller sent the UPI through and nothing they could do about it. Graciously I could have the strike removed they said when the dispute closes in a couple of days time without payment.

Now seriously..... the seller violates ebay policy by relisting my item, sells my item to someone else, and then wants payment from me when I CANNOT make payment for 2 reasons, 1. They sold my item, 2. There is no postage on the invoice preventing me from making payment anyway.

And EBAY ALLOWS THIS BEHAVIOUR FROM A TOP RATED SELLER??????????

Is this not also violating ebay policy as fee avoidance, i.e. because I declined the cancellation the seller did not get back their Final Value Fees nor listing fees. And by ebay allowing an Unpaid item dispute to go ahead, of which they know I cannot pay, this seller gets back his fees with no penalty for not completing my sale!

Love to hear what other members have to say on this.

I still have some problems re missing functions on my account since Migration. I ended up trying to get onto eBay Tech support and went there via eBay Customer service. They have just told me that it is Live World that handles the discussion boards when I contacted them about functions that I don't have and that I needed to contact them regarding my technical issues. They even gave me an email address, which was that of the Live World moderators that we used to use when appealing.

I informed the lady that it was Lithium who now handled this side of things, and she assured me that she had the most up to date information in front of her.

I explained that Lithium took over on July 1 (ish) and that Live World was now gone. She asked ME how I knew this.

I said it was written down the bottom of every page (apart from all the other ways we all know about the change over) and she then asked me to spell it for her! And then, asked ME for the email addy and phone number to contact Lithium herself!

Seriously?

Oh, and she's going to verify for me that Lithium have in fact replaced Live World, and will confirm it for me in the next 24 hours via eBay messages...

@ crikey*mate - Thats hilarious, it's no wonder most of the people that use eBay are going bald......from scratching their heads in disbelief all the time.

@ magicmomentz - Yes it can be very frustrating and similar has happened to me, but it has been pointed out a number of times on here that, eBay doesn't own the items being listed. The person listing the items maintains ownership until there has been a completed transaction, which means they can cancel the listing at anytime, as long as they tick the box with a flimsy reason. Which I think one is " I don't want to sell it any more" or in your case they could say "made an incorrect listing".

Happens all the time, but doesn't make for a pleasant buying experience, does it?

Good grief.

It confirms something I have thought for a while. The ebay support you get is pretty worthless. I have yet to find one of them that actually answers the questions I ask, they seem to pluck a stock answer off their computer and post that. I am not all that surprised to find they aren't always up to speed with how ebay works. Even I can see the lithium sign at the bottom and I'm certainly no expert. I can't understand why the woman couldn't have opened another window and had a quick look while she was talking to you.

The story beggars belief. Not that it could happen, but that the seller was able to manipulate it and get their fees back.

I find sometimes people do breach what I thought were ebay rules or conditions, and with impunity, too, when computers could have easily caught some of the breaches, I am sure, and at least issued a warning.

I'm sure I read somewhere on this site that once a mutual cancellation is knocked-back, the seller cannot open a UPI .

If so, eBay is going against eBay policy.

Magicmoments, I know it's not much help to you now, but for future reference you don't need an invoice in order to pay. Once you had declined the mutual cancellation you should have paid immediately by clicking 'pay now' and using Paypal - you could then have opened an 'item not received' dispute and the seller would have been left with egg on face.

So, if there is no invoice, how does the seller insert the correct price for Magic's purchase?

You can't proceed through checkout without a postage price, and in this case none was specified and reliant on the seller submitting one, which after the purchase can only be done on an ninvoice.

For full PayPal Buyer protection, you cannot pay for a purchase ion two transactions, but regardless, checkout won't allow you to proceed with payment without an amount inserted by the seller in the aproppriate field.

Yes, I am dead sure, otherwise I wouldn't have said it.

You have already had the OP explain this to you, and then I did as well, how many more people do you need? What, you think that eventually someone will come along and agree with your incorrect information?

The OP says that postage was unspecified, so how could checkout bring up a price in the listing? There wasn't one!

He's a shocker! He just doesn't sort laundry! Towels, fluffy stuff, my good clothes, the kids' good clothes, their WHITE school uniform shirts, pressed trousers, even handwash only stuff - it's anything goes, this man has no boundaries when it comes to washing

And then he just tosses nit all in the dryer! All together!

I now have a secret stash of my own clothes just so he can't destroy them and I wait till he goes out to wash em so he doesn't try and top up the washing machine!

Meh, if that's the worst he ever does, I reckon I'm pretty lucky, eh?

That is NOT quite true. All you have to do is to insert 0 in the postage space and you can pay. Also, once you decline the mutual cancellation, the seller cannot open NPB dispute; unless something changed in the past few weeks.

I'm really sorry, but for obvious reasons, the system will not permiit (or at least process) a buyer to insert their own postage amount.

And I am pretty sure that I never said anything about MC or UID's.

I am quite sure that sellers have complained in the past that a buyer has entered their own (and wrong) postage amount. Perhaps that cannot be done any more.

Correct crikey*mate and all the members that gave similar answers, I COULD NOT enter in a postage amount of my own to be able to pay for my item through paypal.

Wasn't that disabled at least a couple of years ago when too many buyers were doing just that? Also, on my selling account, I remember in settings somewhere that I was also able to set up checkout in such a way that it would not enable buyers to enter their own amounts in postage.

And thank you to the member who pointed out that once a dispute is closed on an item, a seller cannot open another dispute. In my case it was the item cancellation sent through first that I declined, and as mentioned in my OP, I wanted to pay for this item. The seller then relisted my item and sold it to someone else. Another 24 hours later I was sent the UPI. I have another day or so apparently to pay for this item or a strike is rewarded Yup, my reward for trying to do the right thing!

I phoned ebay again today, and now they say there is a "BUG" in the system that has allowed this seller to open a second dispute on my item. But said BUG remains open in my ebay still waiting to be paid for!!

Under normal circumstances a seller cannot open 2 disputes on an item. My concerns have been passed onto Technical Support apparently, and I am awaiting their response as to what they have done about this, or IF they are going to close the UPI without rewarding me with that strike.

Oh, and I also asked ebay support today if I could just mark this as payment sent in my ebay, I have the drop down arrow where I can choose this. I haven't done it, and ebay could not answer me what would happen if I did, I suggested it might actually close the UPI. I also realise that would be dishonest and would not do that, but it is tempting just to find out what would happen.

I realise this is not the appropriate thread to be discussing this, but originally this thread was in BUYING. The mods moved this to CS, so I apologise as it not where I started this discussion.

Just get customer support to redirect your technical issues to Live World. Apparently that's who fixes these things......
