What to do about work safety laws flouted?

What does one do if your workplace flouts allot of safety laws and Safework reps from the Government do not seem to care about it?

Heavy lifting (causing injuries)?

Rats in Lunchroom?

Broken electrical equipment?

Overflowing toilets?

No fridge in lunchroom?

No first aid kit?

Tried talking to the Boss and he just lies about things being organised.

Reps come to the workshop and barely walk through it, talk and laugh with the Boss and leave.

If you get injured because of these you then have to deal with workcover(or their contracted legal firms) and they do not care at all about the people they are suppose help back to work.

That sounds awful, nobody should have unsafe working conditions. The trouble these days is the balance of power is on the employer's side.

However, you can anonymously report to work cover. That's what I'd do, if the boss isn't open to suggestions.

Someone did and he was fired.

Scratch that, he made a mistake on a project that we have all done and that was used as a reason to fire him.

He contacted the EPA regarding the handling of chemicals and a week later he was gone.

I tried to contacted a contractor who does the safety inspections and they did not return my call and when i phoned back this person works a half a week and is 'hard to get a hold of'.

I need to stay employed to help support an ill parent.

Until they pass, I cannot move on with my life or employment situation.

I need my jawb, I just do not like being treated this badly by a company I have given 9 years to.

As I stated, worksafe do seem to care and I cannot work out why.

Some places such as Bunnings are over the top when it comes to safety.

How does my employer get a pass from this worksafe rep?

Is the rep doing something to look the other way?

One can walk through the place and see things like a lack of firehoses and extinguishes, broekn electrical cables and extensions.

Also all the things I mentioned.

It sounds like corruption, or at the very least, nepotism is a problem?

Every worker should go home in the same condition s/he arrived at work.

Have you tried reporting to the main work cover number? In my experience they take every report very seriously... I had a situation where live wires were dangling from a welding workshop ceiling (lol) and the welders hadn't been tagged for years...and the fire hoses were chopped up by kids to replace flat bike tyres. The bosses kept saying for weeks they were gonna fix it, but didn't, so I reported and within a few days work cover arrived to inspect. They travelled more than 500 klms to get there, so they were serious about it.

So that is what I would do...anonymously and not from a work phone.

I found it dead and smelt it/disposed of it.

Stuck dead near a heater vent where it was warm and I cleaned it up with a shovel.

Then used a chemaical cleaner to dry and get rid of the stain near the tiles and the odour.

become a HSR (Health & Safety Rep) and institute a Health & Safety Workgroup....contact your Union

Unions were run out of the entire industry and everyone connected.

I guess I will have to wait some and make a anonymous report and hope they do something.

Horrible feeling when the people who employ you sit in luxury and don't seem to care about basic safety things like a fridge, pest control and risks of injury/ electrocution.
