I dont think the word 'circumsision' really suits what is actually happening, its mutilation.

It gets rid of the womans sexuality and the almost ability to give birth.

This seems to me to be totally illogical ... if a woman has her important bits removed, how is she going to enjoy intimacy? Why would she want to get married? Doesn't the man suffer too?

I think you need to watch the show to find out, I can't, there are many different procedures and some of them are able to enjoy sex, I couldn't hang around to find out

They don't want women to feel any pleasure. that is the whole idea of female mutilation. And the women in these cultures usually have no choice about getting married - their marriages are arranged.

It's obscene, and any parent in this country found doing it should have their children removed from their care. No questions asked. But that won't be done of course, for fear of upsetting these minority groups.

And I'm still always amazed how many people are up in arms over female mutilation, and yet find nothing wrong that baby boys are having their foreskins removed. I can see very little difference at the base level, even though boys still have normal feelings afterward.

She's not meant to enjoy sex. That's why they do it. It's meant to keep her a faithful wife.

She may not want to get married, but she will be sold into it by her parents.

The man doesn't suffer, it's what he requires according to their customs. He wouldn't accept anything else.

Katy the people who do this belong to a people where most marriages are arranged, sometimes young girls to old men.

The thing is it is done to keep the women inline, they don't wont them to enjoy sox.

I think it is an horrific thing to do to little girls, as they said on that show it is a form of child abuse.

Parents shouldnt be allowed to let their little girls be mutilated like that, it is very cruel.

I couldnt watch all of it, found it too distressing.

Agree crystal, it's not circumcision. And calling it so is a way to justify it.

Male circumcision at least derives for hygienic reasons.

Totally disgraceful.

Maybe I think this way because I am a woman ... maybe I think this way because once I was in a relationship with a man who was impotent ...

They don't care about a woman's pleasure. All boiled down, it is to stop a woman deriving pleasure so she cannot decide to seek it elsewhere if her husband is a dud in bed. Convenient for these men.

And male circumcision is mutiliation. Boys can be taught to clean themselves quite well. To say it is for hygiene reasons is to suggest males can't be taught to wash themselves. If they can brush their teeth, they can manage a foreskin.

Yes, but it's a tradition from back when hygiene was poor, so at least a little more understandable, though not as acceptable these days, unless for religious reasons.

I think it's silly not to care about a woman's pleasure, since that (in my experience) affects the pleasure a male feels. So, yeah, it's about control ... but also shooting oneself in the foot, yes?

I didn't even think about having my son "snipped". No way.

some boys have to be circumsised for other reasons, health issues as with my grandson.

Had nothing to do with hygiene.........my daughter would have preferred he wasnt done, but she had no choice due to other reasons.

It is illegal in this country and I'm pretty sure if you live in this country it is also illegal to take your daughter overseas to have it done. The problem of course is that if it is done overseas then unless there are complications or the child tells someone outside the family it may well never come to the attention of the authorities.
