Bushfires All Around

Sitting here at reception, an eerie reddish-brown light outside, the wind's whipping the trees into a frenzy, clouds of smoke roiling around the sky the smell of burning eucalyptus trees...

here's a pic I took just outside the door

going home now.

check on your neighbours and make sure you have all your valuables and important papers ready to go if needed.

It is a start reminder we live in a country that is prone to floods and fires and everything inbetween...

yeh, reminder, don't leave cigarette lighters on the dashboard of the car, in the sun.

flamin' things explode and set vehicles on fire

lost one of me best vw campervans, wasn't my lighter, mate put the bleep'n thing there.

heatherbrae fire was reported started as a controlled burn this mornin', got away from 'em, burned up to williamtown raaf base,

over to raymond terrace.

Please, please be safe everyone. Those fires are terrible and so many houses lost. Who knows how many people?

We were having pouring rain and hailstorms here, and as I watched it all, I prayed that the fierce winds would blow the rain to the fire areas. The extremes of weather is unbelievable. Unfortunately we can not controll nature.

I hope the situation is easing with the wind change tonight and have my fingers crossed that the loss of property won't be in the hundreds. It's a stark reminder of what all states face this summer, and yes we are certainly getting some pretty diverse and extreme weather conditions ATM

Yes sun was shinning in Melbourne when suddenly hail for 1 minute while the sun was still out.

Fire is so dangerous/destructive and not to be taken lightly.

I don't remember ever having so many really windy days at this time of year. we usually get a few around Feb, when it's hot, not usually gale force winds in Spring though

Those photos remind me of the NSW bushfires in Dec 2001. The sun looked like a dull red traffic light trying to shine through a hazy smokey sky.

We do need rain and less hot dry gusty winds.

A couple of hours ago we had a downpour here in Coffs Harbour. Lasted about 10 minutes now it has gone. Hope it is on its way to the areas which need it.

Yes! I remember talking to my cousin overseas who telling me she saw it on the news over there....I described how it looked from where I was, how my patio was covered in ash.
