HEATWAVE: Bendigo swelters through another hot day

UPDATE WEDNESAY: The temperature is again soaring.

According to the Bendigo Bank clock, it was 42 degrees at 12.01pm.

By 12.17pm, that had soared to 44 degrees.

Yes summer is typically the warmest season of the year .Temps are breaking records and it's very uncomfortable

Parts of South Australia have experienced record breaking temperatures, as the heatwave intensifies across the state. The weather bureau has revised the forecast up for the coming days, with Adelaide on track to equal or surpass its hottest day ever of 46.1 degrees.

yesterday it was 47deg on our back deck according to the thermometer, OH says it is 45 today.

Just had some thunder and about 4 drops of rain.

Yes, it does, and we do get heatwaves but the tempearture is not usually this hot for so long. Fine if you have airconditioning but for those of us don't, it does become very uncomfortable.

Keep your fluids up, Iza, its too easy to become dehydrated.

Fire crews battle blazes as south-east Australia sizzles in heatwave

Firefighters in Victoria and South Australia are battling to control dozens of blazes amid a scorching heatwave that has sent the mercury soaring in the country's south east.

The heatwave has brought temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius to some areas, and relief is unlikely until the end of the week.

Yesterday Melbourne hit close to 43C and Adelaide experienced its fourth hottest day on record.

'Like putting a gun to your child's head'
Victorian paramedics say they are shocked by the number of children left locked in cars in heatwave conditions.

In Victoria, aerial surveys this morning showeddozens of fires are burning out of control, most of them in the Mallee region in the state's north-west.

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) say more than 250 fires were started by lightening strikes overnight, and 15 are yet to be brought under control.

Victorian Fire Commissioner Craig Lapsley says crews are focusing on the Kangaroo Ground fire north-east of Melbourne and a watch-and-act alert has been issued.

A total fire ban is in place across the state until Friday.

Commissioner Lapsley says the peak fire danger will come on Friday when winds are expected to pick up.

CFA state duty officer Mick Harris says lightning could start even more blazes ahead of Friday's extreme heat.

"Obviously, with a deadline of Friday being very severe to extreme fire danger, we want to have the best possible chance of getting these fires under control by then," he said.

If there needs to be a message in every thread...?

If anything posted helps a child who may have otherwise been left in a hot car or reminds others to be fire aware and drink plenty of fluid ....I think that'd be a pretty good and worthwhile message ...don't you think ?

Iza I love the hot weather...those 45 degree days where you can feel your eyeballs burning when you step outside lol. Nobody ever listens to my fabulous hot weather survival tips, possibly because they're worried about looking like the town nutter...but I don't care about such things ...

Here are my best tips!

Walk through the shower with your clothes on whenever you dry out

Wet a sarong and drape it over your head...it's like a personal air conditioner. I own sarongs specifically for this purpose 😄

Carry a squirt bottle and use it

Sleep with a wet washer,...or even wet sheets if it's really hot. The top sheet, not the bottom...and use water lol

Play with the birds under the sprinkler

Water the garden but mostly water yourself.

Throw ice cubes, water, a sprig of mint and a squirt of lemon into the blender

Keep your hair wet

On those really hot days, a small amount of water makes for a whole lot of cold...I know your water is limited there.

If you follow my loony tips, you'll enjoy the hot weather and look forward to it. Maybe lol

once it hits 53, you're allowed a 10 minute break every 2 hours.

I heard on the radio today that record number of children had to be rescued out of hot cars in the past couple of days. Are people really so stupid?

I was quite OK during the heatwave last year, but i am finding this one difficult. Last night inside it was still over 30 degrees C at 2 pm and outside it felt even more. You know it is hot when the cat sleeps on the tiles in the bathroom 🙂

I love that wall of heat that hits you when you step outside.

A wet towel hung around your neck/shoulders is cooling, too.

gee, thankyou............I cant go outside as it affects my asthma, so stuck inside in the cool

when I was little, my grandmother use to wet the top sheet, when the weather was hot in Adelaide, no airconditioners then, only fans.
