Here are some NBN speed results conducted within 30 seconds of each other on the same connection and PC

As you can see by the bar graph, what I have always stated and continue to state is that regardless of the speed of your NBN connection the overall data transfer speed will only be as slow as the slowest link in the data transmission chain.

The test was undertaken on an NBN fixed wireless connection with an upper limit of 25Mbps.

Tokyo rates high on the speed chart and all the destinations were major cities.

The global average is around 15 Mbps

All you vocal NBN speed freaks read it and weep

Poddy, I've been with Optus Cable since 2005 and in that time, I've noticed my line speed gradually reducing until it is now averaging below 20Mbps locally, and an appalling 3Mbps with connections to Tokyo & San Francisco, and I'm not impressed.

Worse still, I'm thoroughly **bleep** off that my upload speeds are restricted to less than 0.5Mbps on all servers, and can't understand the need to reduce uploads to such a slow speed. Also annoyingly, I get around 20% higher speeds when using the Telstra server for my testing instead of the Optus servers. It's just not good enough.

FWIW, these are my latest tests done just a few minutes ago.

Here are a few more resuls that support what I have been trying to convince people of ever since the White Elephant with the optic fiber trunk was concieved

CQ your upload speed is way too low I get better than that on 3G wireless

How does the internet speed affect what you are doing? Does it just mean videos load slower? Pages take ??? seconds to load?

I'm pretty technical, but still fairly new on ~~a computer~~ the internet (not 3 years yet).

What's to weep over?

Given most traffic is within Aus and available capacity, both nationally and internationally, is increasing all the time your speed tests prove nothing of the sort. The 25Mbps download at this stage is limited to 5Mbps upload. The fibre conections have a faster upload speed internationally.

Smart people act to upgrade before the situation is dire.

Poddy, as mentioned above I'm on Optus cable and have been since 2005 and I'm absolutely convinced that when I first signed up, my upload speeds were as much as 5Mbps, while downloading was as high as 30Mbps, but at some time in the not so distant past, it would appear that Optus have shaped upload speeds to a maximum of 500Kbps without my knowledge or permission.

I'm going to ring them and give them a bit of a serve later today, but my options are extremely limited, as going back to copper would see my speeds drop by a good 50%, but I suspect that the main reason downloads are slower than before is that the bandwidth has been reduced due to the much higher number of subscribers using cable in my area, and I'm not at all happy that Singtel/Optus are charging me higher fees for a considerably reduced service. Five years ago they were good value, but not any more.

No replied to my question yet....don't bother though (if you were). It's one of those questions I refuse to ask (but forgot) and wanted to see if I figured it out or if someone said what it actually means.

That might answer why some don't click videos.

Your speed is quite good. Many here have a tenth of that or worse.

If too slow your video will be subject to much buffering or it might stop completely.

For some it won't be a noticeable difference unless more than one person is trying to use the connection at the same time.

In my area pre NBN, we had ADSL only (not ADSL2). With the basic NBN plan (no added speed packs) the broadband we have available now is 10 times faster than the previous ADSL service. Also we get a lot more GB per month for less cost.. Nothing to cry over here.

Freaki, I have proved my point, that being, the internet is only as fast as the slowest link.

Regardless of what speed your service, even if it is 100 Trigga-Mega-Bigga bytes per microsecond and there is a link in the chain from source to destination that is just 1 bit per hour your top data transfer rate will be 1 bit per hour.

My other point is the global average data transmission speed is around 15Mbps so that is the average speed you cam expect.

And by the way by far the most content originates outside Australia.

Jimmy the internet data transfer rate determins ho fast you get your data content.

The point you are trying to make means nothing as link speed is increasing every day.

It doesn't matter that most content originates outside of Australia. Much content is mirrored on servers within Australia. Plenty of content people access regularly is within Australia.

You have allowed your opinion of Labor to cloud your judgement of the NBN.

Do you really believe that 'much content' is duplicated on other servers globally, There is a certain amount but not as 'much' as you would like people to believe.

We all know our speed is only as fast as our the fastest link. Link speeds are increasing all the time.

More content is being mirrored and stored in Aus all the time.

You are more than welcome to stay in the back waters if you wish but please stop insisting that you know what everybody else needs now and in the next few years.

The OS speed tests I posted leave yours looking fairly modest.

I note that in the tests you posted there was no comparison to local servers, nor was there and time, date, service speed or any other supporting information

We all know our speed is only as fast as our the fastest link. Link speeds are increasing all the time.

But are you aware that.

So I made a mistake. Big deal. I meant slowest link not fastest but you knew that.

I'm fairly sure the tests are date stamped.

My test was on a 25/5 NBN fibre connection via wifi.

Note, it's faster than 85% of Australia.
