Advice please, what do I do, debt that is not mine

I posted about this before re a phone account debt that is not mine.

I am trying to get a home loan and I have a big problem getting this because my credit score shows I have an unpaid debt .

But it is not mine. I contacted the company and was emailed the account. It is in my name, old address from 13 years ago and old phone number from that address also cancelled 13 years ago.

This unpaid account is using my name, date of birth, that former phone number and address but is 6 and 7 years after leaving that address.

The calls are to Adelaide, Brisbane , Melbourne, Perth, South Africa, USA, Japan, Taiwan, Denmark , Fiji.

I can't get a home loan with this. What can I do ?

Send them proof.

I'd just pay it and be done with the whole thing. Proving it's not you could be difficult. Sweat the big stuff, not the little.

It is likely a data entry problem.

I received a parking fine last week for an offence that was not mine.

I don't own the car, have never had that registration number and don't live in the state the car is from.

I have to prove this is not mine.

So, I had to do a stat dec with details about where I live, how long for, my car details etc.I have also never been to that town.

This may be an option for you? A stat dec outlining details of residence etc and time periods, rent statements? new phone bills?

Yes, to contact the old phone company for proof that I closed the phone account 13 years ago, (so they could see that it is not mine from 6 to 7 years ago), but the phone company has since changed names and is now a different company so they said they could not go back 13 years ago

Try the following:

Creditor - phone company -> Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman

How do I get my credit report changed if it is incorrect?

If the creditor belongs to an industry ombudsman scheme the best option is usually to:

Step 1 complain to the creditor
Step 2 complain to the relevant industry ombudsman scheme. You only need to take this step if you are not happy with the result of step 1.

Alternatively, you can choose to write to the credit-reporting agency – Veda Advantage or Dun & Bradstreet and send a copy to the creditor. Remember to date, sign and keep a copy of your letter.

Veda Advantage is a member of the Financial Ombudsman Service (“FOS”), so if you do not get a positive response from Veda Advantage you can complain to FOS about the actions of Veda Advantage.

You do have a right to complain to the Privacy Commissioner. However we would recommend that you go to one of the ombudsman schemes first.

I think that is applicable to bankruptcy.
