Macedonia To Chemically Castrate Peter Files

Macedonia's parliament adopted a law yesterday introducing chemical castration for repeat pedophile offenders and increasing jail sentences to life imprisonment.

Social Policy Minister Dime Spasov said the chemical castration -- drugs administered to reduce libido and sexual activity -- would be "performed in specialised facilities every six months" for repeat offenders.

Under the bill, first-time offenders could be sentenced to between 15 and 40 years in prison or opt for chemical castration in exchange for reduced punishment.

Russia, Denmark and Poland are among the countries that have introduced chemical castration.

In 2012, Macedonia became the first country in the Balkans to publish an online register of convicted pedophiles, with pictures, names and addresses of those released from jail.

Since 2004, more than 230 people in Macedonia have been convicted for sexual abuse of minors.

A friend of a friend was in Long Bay during the 60's. For car theft. I can recall the word Bromide in the conversations following his release. Apparently it was being added to all inmates meals. It was said that it was to lessen inmate to inmate association.

I would imagine that chemically is the only option, surgically would be a very delicate operation.

Paedophilia is a sexual orientation, in the same way as heterosexuality and homosexuality. Paeophiles are sexually attracted to children in the same way as homosexuals are attracted to those of the same sex and heterosexuals are attracted to those of the opposite sex. They don't want to change and all research has shown paedophiles remain sexually active far longer than heterosexuals -- right into advanced old age

It's a condition of the mind, first and foremost. Physical castration wouldn't stop paedophiles fantasising about sex with children and loss of their p.e.n.i.s. would mean they'd use some other instrument . Even removal of the testes/gonads might not prevent the urge

I've read various articles, some of which claim chemical castration dulls the urge whilst others say chemical castration isn't as effective as the public would like to believe. Only way to know, I guess, would be to interview a chemically castrated and honest paedophile. Anything which removes them from society is a positive though, imo

and people having the spine to quit kiddie porn would help reduce the plague

Paedophilia is a sexual orientation, in the same way as heterosexuality and homosexuality.

I'm sorry but I strongly disagree with that comment. IMO paedophiles are degenerate. When you use language like that it somehow "normalizes" their "choice" to be attracted to children. To me there is nothing normal about being attracted to children in that way, and to follow through with those types of desires shows a total lack of self control and should never be placed in the same catagory as hetrosexuality. If it's a criminal act it should not be classed as a sexual orientation imo.

Chemical castration is carried out in this country, but on a voluntary basis. Those men would be well motivated to change their behaviour.

Thing is I don't think loss of sexual function in the "undercarriage" equates to loss of obsession with looking at kiddy porn, or enacting it.

Of course not, but to voluntary accept that procedure is a good sign that they can be rehabilitated.
