Who do you think will win this year and do you agree?

Best Film: American Hustle (don't agree)

Best Director: Alfonso Cuaron, Gravity (agree)

Best Actor: Leonardo Dicaprio (don't agree)

Best Actress: Cate Blanchett (don't agree)

Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer Lawrence (DON'T AGREE)

I hope Mathew Maconaughy (sp), wins, I think he deserves it. He is a much stronger actor than Leo Dicaprio.

Hes been overlooked so many times for films that i thought were very Oscar deserving.

I'm ambivalent about Leo. I think there was a period there where he was one of the most promising actors on the planet: This Boy's Life (I think that was the title, with De Niro), Gilbert Grape, Basketball Diaries, Romeo and Juliet, another movie where he plays a bisexual poet, then Titanic. After Titanic, I only liked Catch Me If You Can. I haven't liked any movies he has done since except for Shutter Island (though I thought his performance was weak).

And I would like to see Revolutionary Road but other than that, I haven't been impressed. I think he WAS an icon, and deserved an Oscar for any of his pre-Titanic films, but I just don't find him convincing now: he has a weak voice, can be slightly effeminate an and is pudding-faced.

I think some people peak in their teens, others in their 30's or even 50's but I think Leo belongs to the former, sorry.

Have you not seen 'Blood Diamond' or 'The Departed'?

I thought he was brilliant in both of those as well.

Okay, I have to be honest and say I've seen neither as I don't enjoy violence for violence sake and the trailers looked too full on.

Yes, both have their violent moments, but Blood Diamond is so much more than the violence. It tells of the illegal diamond trade. A heart wrenching story.

regarding your OP. I like Jennifer Lawrence but she is just flavour of the month at the moment. Havent seen American Hustle so cant say whether she deserves an Oscar for it or not

Alright, I'll put it on my list. I find the diamond trade, illegal or not, fascinating. What part does Leo play and who else is in it?

I'm amazed at the way the public, Hollywood and the Academy have taken to Jennifer Lawrence. I think they have been desperate for quite some time for "The Next Big Thing". For a while people thought Anne Hathaway would replace the queen, Julia Roberts. But Hathway is so disliked by the public.

Or maybe they think of Lawrence like Meryl Streep who within two years won a best actress and best supporting Oscar. Whatever it is, Hollywood want a new super-star and have decided she will be it. I think the producers believe a good portion of "The Hunger Games" box office is because of her, unfounded in my opinion.

I agree that Blood Diamond was/is a brilliant movie/story......well acted by all in it. Leo shone in it IMO due to his excellent Sth African accent - but overall not to an Oscar performance standard IMO. I think he needs to find the right script/part still in order to win an Oscar. He is capable and will prob get an O in the future.

I hope Kate B gets an O.

I dont think Leo will get it cause I dont think the oscar people like him.

Jennifer is flavour of year so I think she will get the top one.

I just about smashed the TV when that happened. lol

Jared Leto is simply amazing in Dallas Buyers Club as is Matthew Mc Connaughy

Who's list is this? I agree that 3 on the list will probably get the gong, Director, Actress and supporting Actor.

I've only seen Dallas Buyers Club out of those up, great film, forgot it was Matthew McConaughy, haven't seen 12 years a Slave, heard it should get best picture/actor.

duff is just a hypocrite. It watches movies/ is entertained by actors along with the rest of us. It is simply that we are enjoying a thread it didn't create that bugs it.

Also, could be resentment that while we are discussing a subject duff is interested in, duff doesn't discuss topics and threads that interest us - therein lies the frustration.

BTW, I love Jennifer Connelly - she was great in A Simple Mind and of course, The Labyrinth...
