Water Bill

I live in a unit , one of 6 and the owners of 4 of the others are jumping up and down just got their water bill in and its equivalent to 5 people per unit so 30 people when there is only 10 people all up living here ..

Will be interesting to see if there is a leak under ground somewhere ..

Does anyone use the hose outside to wash their cars or wash down the driveway or water the gardens etc?

When I lived in a unit way back we had this guy that was washing down the driveway every single day and bam we all received an excess water bill,so we all dobed him in and we were all exempt from paying the bill and this guy wasn't allowed near the hose again.

I have only seen the young girl wash her car once but other than that no . I have had one of my sister stay on occassions for a couple of nights here and there but that wouldnt make a huge difference to the bill like it has .We do have a new young couple who have only been here abou t5 months though and the last one was a little higher but this one is a lot more . I have been here 18 months and there hasnt been anything like this happen before .

Well I know that water rates have gone up by 28% in the past 6 months and before that the rates went up by a whopping 40% so in the last few years=around 68%

I know one of the ladies is going off about it , she knows i have had my sister stay and the reasons for it but said how many of you are on the lease , so i expect a call from the agent. Im not worried though as i have proof she isnt here all the time .

There are no laws against anyone having guests in their homes and one person would not make the water bill look like another 20 people were living there.

Maybe you will need to have the water meter checked for any leaks

And another thing also is sometimes the water heaters have a leak so maybe get that checked also.

The young fella in one of the units is checking the metre this arvo so- no usi--ng any water for an hour , I'll go do my shopping then lol.

Units are 35 yrs old so they are thinking there is a possibility of an underground leak and as its sand it would be soaking in and not coming up the guy said .

I lived in a house where for 2 years there was a leak in the hot water system and 200 000 litres of water was wasted so this is a possibility in your situation.

test being done now no one is using any water and metre is still ticking over so a major leak somewhere is happening

Frightening isn't it. Have you checked the service charges? Are you sure it's the water that has caused the problem?

Once the test was done it worked out to about 4 ltrs a minute , thats a lot of water . From the looks of it from work been done the leak was in the driveway which runs down the middle of units ( 3 on each side ) but wasnt visable . They fixed this same area just before xmas ..obviously not properly .

If you're renting you can only be charged for water if your place has its own meter.
