I have 2 cats-1 female Japanese Bobcat and 1 male short-haired black with white bib and 'boots. My male cat has been subjected to a brutal beating by some human armed with something hard.

3 days now into recovery.A fat lip. A badly broken upper fang. A chip fracture front leg/elbow and possibly badly broken. Hardly eating. In a lot of pain-head,neck,spine,legs ......could not walk initially. 1 year old male, sterilised/microchipped/registered. Both kept in at night. Been to vet on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication for possible infection and inflammation.

If you don't like cats please don't say anything nasty or unhelpful. I am very upset just would like to ask for helpful suggestions on how to possibly stop my cats from wandering during the day so they don't get beaten again......maimed, beaten etc.

Sorry to here this,I think anyone that beats up any kind of animal should be thrown in gaol and I hope they get caught as cruelty to animals is a very serious crime.

first of all i am sorry some lowlife hurt your cat, i hope it has a speedy recovery and is not in pain for long.

the only way to prevent your cat wandering is to keep it indoors, in an enclosure outside and only let it free when you are there to supervise it.

geez that's bad and very sorry for your tom, paints. That's just plain cruelty.

I have no suggestion as to how to keep your cats from wandering, cats being wanderers and explorers as they are.

Hope they are ok. Seriously, you need to consider keeping them indoors and build a cat run for outdoors, safest thing for them.

OMG!

I'm so sorry to hear that paintsew. Why are some people so cruel?? During the day too! Ours are outside during the day but mostly hang out in the garden, I know that sometimes they do climb the fences into adjoining properties but.....

The only thing I can think of is an enclosed cat run. Do any of your neighbors not like cats?
Are you sure he wasn't ' knocked by a car?

I hope he makes a rapid recovery. I would be very upset too.

Whether your cat is registered or not makes no difference, whether deliberately attacked or hit by a car (and I assume just left) the only way to protect your cats is to only let them outside if you have a safe cat area. Cannot fathom the depravity of anyone beating up an animal.

I'm very sorry to hear your cat has been hurt and hope it recovers soon with no long lasting problems. I wonder too if it may have been hit by a car, rather than beaten?

I'm also a strong advocate for indoor/outdoor secure enclosures for cats. They keep both the pets and the wildlife safe.

do you know for sure your cat was beaten up? It could have been hit by a car as already stated

I agree our cat should be kept indoors or a cat run if you want it to be safe

No twinkles-according to the vet, there are not enough severe injuries as associated with being hit by a car plus his pupil dilation was normal. The poor cat is sore all over and in much pain. This was my first question to the vet as the cat was very disorientated could barely walk and one side of his moth was very swollen and dry. Lucifer (his name!), was away for too long last Thursday afternoon, like 5 or more hours. I got worried because both cats come and seek out myself or house humans(whoever is home at the time) all through the day-they go out the cat flap to do cat things for half an hour to an hour then come back inside for periods....then pop back out again all thru the day.

Not sure how I can stop them jumping the boundary fences and gates.

Thank you pepe and everyone else for your suggestions and support. It takes a lot for me to cry. A lot. I am bawling my eyes out just seeing the results of someone's deliberate and repeated aimed violent attacks on such a friendly little fella.

Yes. I think you are all correct. An outside run. Where's the best place to start with this outside run plan?

How can anyone hurt an animal like that? Disgusting behaviour whether the person hates cats or not, whether the cat was roaming or not. Disgusting.

Cats adapt to be being indoor only and it really is the only way to protect them from humans, animal, cars or anything else that can harm them as well as to stop them from doing the harming. An enclosure gives them access to the great outdoors but stops them from roaming.

I hope that he heals quickly, poor boy. You must be so worried and furious.

Cat's can't be caged - they are too resourceful for one thing.

Any one that harms a cat (any animal) that way 'paints' need's stringing up IMO.

Even if you are not an animal lover, you don't harm them ! It takes a sick and twisted person to injure an animal in that way.

Let's hope there is something to 'karma' - and hope your little mate is on the mend quick smart.

yes it would break all our hearts and my cats' souls if they were prevented from going outside to feel the sea breeze, bask in the morning sun, follow ants, sniff the flowers, roll in their sand patch........I have just looked up a few 'cat run' company sites. I can't afford these, seriously.

I might try getting some small harnesses and leads and train them both for 'walkies' sessions! Keep them inside then take them for walks. Am I hoping for too much?

A second hand aviary would do; just add toys, shelves etc and cat.

One of mine is harnessed trained.
