Something I have noticed about political posts/threads

and I could be wrong and guilty of the same

trying not to be biased here but 🙂

left leaning tend to decipher information in the news and give personal thoughts along with links

right leaning tend not to decipher but copy and paste endless articles without much personal input views

not trying to start an argument here but has anyone else noticed this?

To be honest, I think the right has mainly given up due to the constant onslaught so now it's just the C & P's that post.

People on both sides of the fence think. Half of them just don't post them here now.

Well how can we know that they have given up? I do remember the board say 4 or 5 years ago was very right wing and the discussions were much better because you could argue points. Meep is always good to have conversations with, can't think of anyone else at the moment, I remember when she had a Tony Abbott avatar 🙂

You can tell because pretty much anytime any one says anything that isn't within Labour party lines it's shot down en masse. And yeah, kudo's to meep who still plugs away at it. Most posters who even sit on the fence have given up posting anything possibly anti Labour, the barrage against isn't worth the hassle because it's not a discussion, it becomes a belittling thread.

I think too many posters - on both sides - mistake name-calling for rational debate.

Fair comment, but when I say things like I don't like rudd or shorten it practically goes unnoticed, I can criticize the Labor Party till the cows come home and it is not noticed, I can praise and disagree with policies on both sides equally however it is quite obvious I am left leaning. I've not seen that from the other side to any degree, I mean why not question some of their stupid ideas even if you vote for them???? That is what I don't get.

this must have been before my time, or does it mean the right has given up the constant onslaught and only comes in dribs and drabs now rather than constant?

Most right wing posters have come to the realisation that it is a case of spreading pearls of wisdom before swine.

The minds are closed on any subject that does not lean heavily to the left. Also most, having any semblance of appreciation for reality, have by now realised that it is a time wasting activity to try to move immovable objects that are entrenched in age long historic misconceptions and are unable grasp any concept that is outside their ideology

I don't know, I haven't bothered reading the political threads for a long time, and for a good while before that, only read occasionally.

So while you may have bagged them, perhaps because you still lean left, the posts are left alone.

And, from my point of view, I vote for the party I agree with, not the person they decide to put in front, because when it comes down to brass tacks, it's the party that leads, not the figurehead. (that includes independants, was just stressing my point)

Yes I agree with that, I don't like any of the leaders at the moment, there have been politicians in the past though that seemed like leaders.

i must be missing something, name calling on both sides? is being called a lefty luvie name calling? is that the kind of thing? it's not really name calling - or do you mean calling abbott the Prime Minister for Unemployment, that kind of thing? I don't think anyone actually believes that name calling is rational debate - economic rationalism isn't rational, nor is racism so rational debate is sometimes impossible - that's why i quite like the pics that some complain about.

as i relative newbie the threads that seem to get the most posters cross are the ones about articles in the media re: murders, missing planes etc. All the speculating and opinion often ends in locked threads or upset posters. not my cup of coffee (tea).

Maybe because you're a newbie, you don't get it. This isn't a political forum. It's a chat one. But of late, Every other thread seems to be political, and if you don't agree with the "group" you get belittled, chastised, told to grow up. Never worked for me. I have opinions, they may not be yours, but on a chat forum, I should be allowed to post them.
