I was just reading an article in the Dailey Telegraph about a recall of clothing coloured with cancer causing dye. Bedding retailer pillow talk also recalled items coloured with 'azo dyes' known to break down into carcinogenic chemicals. These items have been imprted from a chinese importer.

Your thread about your sheets concerns me.

Kylie, I also heard that jeans imported from China have strong die that has cancer causing chemicals. Apparently even Just Jeans sock them. I would toss the sheets out and take no chances.

I agree martini but have you noticed that nearly everything these days comes from China. We even check the frozen peas as a lot of them are processed in China.

Not everything Sandypus - we buy very little in our household that ISN'T Australian made. You just have to keep an eye on the labels.

For peas try Birds Eyes Australian Baby Peas from Coles/Woollies - 100% Australian!

After reading the article , I couldn't help thinking that it'd be good if regulations were tightened up so we didn't have to worry about Australia becoming a dumping ground for products that are banned in other countries.

But somehow, I don't think that's going to happen

It sure is Freddie. & they'd already sold 1400 pairs of children's jeans, so I hope parents are made aware of it so they can chuck them out.

Because there was no BC in my family, the suggestion was environmental causes, i'm still having difficulty getting my head around this.

Yes, I quite understand that. I've often wondered if by that they mean food additives, I must admit I've never thought of dyes before. Though I have read that hair dye can increase the risk.

I read the article and it is disturbing !!

So, what do I do now? 😞 it's a worry, it's not like I can afford to simply toss them out, how can I find out if my sheets are safe??

I read all the labels for frozen vegetables.....which can be quite misleading.

a recent cut and paste.

Chinese frozen vegetables are coming into New Zealand, getting re-labelled as 'made in New Zealand' - perhaps they are put in a new plastic bag in New Zealand - then they come across (to Australia) under the Closer Economic Relationship, the CER, and because it says 'Made in New Zealand' we get very slack about significantly upping the ante in checking for chemical residues and other contaminants as that product comes into Australia, and it's so cheap comparatively

Not surprised about the NZ veggies, bought some when the usual Aussie ones were out of stock. They were awful in every way and I did not understand why. Never again. Thanks for posting that.
