Suggestions for repelling cats

Dont get me wrong, I love animals BUT it seems the local wandering cats have decided to use the rock path at the front of my house as a kitty litter tray. They are digging little holes everywhere and pooping in them. Anyone know a safe and humane way to repel these little baggers and stop them pooping on my path?

Mothballs are good. The camphor oil scent does the trick, but will have to be replaced after rain.

LOL that video was hilarious, see the cat run when it gets sprayed looks like a sure repellant, I just dont know if I could afford $130 atm though.

But I will definately try the moth ball idea banoras (dont have any on hand but will pick some up when I go shopping) and I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I was hoping for a natural repellant, maybe a plant or herb that they dont like???

PLEASE don't use mothballs. They are extremely toxic to cats and dogs. Even if the cat 'batts' the mothball then licks it's paws it's still highly dangerous.

You want to repel the cats, not make them suffer a cruel death.

The suggestion I read online is to put them in a covered container or tin with a lid that has holes in it. The smell is enough to repel them.

I dont want to kill the animal but I dont want it pooping all over my front path either.

The cats days are numbered imo if the owner is allowing it to freely roam the streets as it wishes...

Pepper sprinkled on the steps worked here. It had to be replaced regularly but it is relatively cheap and only needs to be used for a short time....until the cats get the message.

Go to your local vets and ask for "Get off my garden " spray or crystals.....it will work without harming the animals.

Hi Secondhand, I have a lot of birds coming into my yard but the cat from a few doors up decided they were going to be it's own personal buffet. Sick to death of selfish, inconsiderate cat owners letting their mangy felines wander around killing anything they fancy. I seriously considered a cat trap from my local Council and it could take it's chances from there, lol. Anyway found I could buy cat and dog repellent in a spray also similar thing that comes in granules. They contain citronella amongst other ingredients which both cats and dogs find offensive. The application of the stuff has to be repeated every 3 to 4 days and after rain. I've only used it in the last couple of days and today it's raining so don't know yet how it will work out. I have sprayed and sprinkled along the fenceline and near the trees where the local feathered boys and girls congregate.

The spray I have is called Keep Off made by Multicrop and the granules are called Skedaddle also made by Multicrop.

Sprinkles I'm hearing you. Those types just dont deserve animals imo. Cats can be very distructive to wildlife especially birds, it's just so irresponsible to allow your cat to wander like that. I do understand that they can be hard to contain but still there are ways of containing them to your own yard. My cat spends most of her life inside, she does venture outside here and there but never leaves the yard because I just dont allow her to.

I'm going to put some potted lavender out there and sprinkle some pepper around aswell see how that goes. If it doesn't work I will then purchase some of those sprinkles you suggested.

LOL Hawk, I have 2 big dogs that are confined to the back yard. I have no front fence, hence why these cats can just poop willy nilly on my front path.

A nearby council is bringing in a 24 hour curfew for cats. I think that is an excellant idea.

What does that mean a 24 hour curfew? Does it mean that cats are not allowed out of the house at all? Or??

Its a shame people have to spend money to keep other peoples pets off their property.

My sisters kids' guinea pig was killed by the neighbours dog when one of the kids accidently left the front door open and it followed them in. Pet owners need to be more responsible and contain their animals.

It totally is punch, thats why I started this thread hoping someone may have a cost effective solution and something that works but wont harm the animal. I'm not in a position to spend heaps of money on a repellant. And honestly I dont really mind the cats wandering around my front yard, I just hate the fact that they have used my pathway as a pooping station.

Oh really? Thats terrible, the kids must've been devestated. What happened to the dog? Did they report it?

The kids were really upset and the neighbours were very apologetic. Luckily the dog didnt actually bite the guinea pig, it scared him to death 😞
