Table Cloths

When they say it's for a 12 seater on a rectangle table, are they counting the chairs at the ends?

How about round ones? Is there a standard with chair? (ie my outdoor table is chunky teak, so the chairs are wider than a regular kitchen chair, and they have arm rests too)

I use the measurements and the round ones are 1400mm diameter

I never have, (well, I did at Christmas) but I am trying to avoid sanding and reoiling my OD setting for a while, and my main indoor table really needs a good sand and polish too, but I'm not ready to get rid of all the kiddy marks on it yet. Lots of history recorded on my main kitchen table by my kids LOL.

do you want your t.cloths to cover the chairs as well? or have i drunk too much coffee?

no, they just have to be long enough to hang over the edge a bit, but not that long so when you do sit down you sit on the tablecloth or get it twisted on stuff and pull it off.

I was just looking at tablecloths and they said things like 8 seater or 12 seater.

I have a 12 seater, but that counts the two chairs at the ends, so it might only be a 10 seater

spose i could run it in on the overlocker if its too big, eh?

or - I saw this magic iron on stuff the other day, I think its supposed to be for hems but it'd woprk on the tablecloth I reckon LOL

Measure your table with a tape measure and allow as much of an overhang as you want (the usual is 30 cms) and then look for the measurements given on the tablecloth you are looking to buy.

If it is in packaging it should give the actual measurements as well as how many place settings it is supposed to cater for.

A 90cm square cloth is a breakfast or supper cloth, then there is a tea cloth....and so on up to a banquet cloth which is traditionally a 12 place setting size.

With all the different sizes and shapes in tables today you really need to measure and get the closest size cloth.

If you look at the packaging, there is usually a pic of the table with plate shapes in the required number.

I have one of those teak outdoor settings. I use wet and dry sandpaper with boiled linseed oil/turps mix and I have heard of people using Aqua Deck.

In the past, and depending on the occasion, I have used bed sheets, a length of burlap, length of artists canvas, vinyl backed curtain fabric with a choice of pattern/colour.

I used to use a big double white flat bedsheet for our family Christmas dinner table.

We put a board over our pool table and covered it with the sheet it was perfect

Yes, a rectangle table is counting the chairs on the ends(top and bottom).

Never bought a tablecloth before, just been using ones we must have aquired as wedding gifts etc when we needed one.

This is all new!
