I was thoroughly disgusted by the appalling lack of manners displayed by the demonstrators in the studio audience last night and I was extremely gratified to see that following a short unscheduled musical interlude, they had been unceremoniously ejected from the studio. Not the best way to try to get their point across, and they did far more harm to their cause than good IMO. 😞

Tony Jones handled it well IMO.

I thought it odd that the entire audience seemed to be uni students.

Surely the show's producers must have realised it could turn into an organised shirtfight.

Doesn't the show aim for a more balanced mix of the population?

Or was no one else interested?

To get a balanced audience, you must first have to cater for it.

That is if you bring to the panel a zealot with one particular point of view, and then you stack the same panel with persons more moderate but with a similar point of view, and then leaving one space open (the sacrificial lamb), with a different point of view, then don’t be surprised if the only audience you attract are more zealots (both for and against)

Frankly its time that no more public monies be wasted on this one sided talkfest.

3 things:

Firstly, people have a right to protest in this country so these kids did nothing wrong.

Secondly, my only beef with Q&A is that the audience and panel make up for the past year and a half has been consistently heavy on the conservative side. people that say that the panels or audiences are stacked are simply not watching consistently.

Thirdly, the only 'zealots' I have ever seen on the show are right winged.

Well done to the students, it's wonderful to see some of our university students concerned enough to want to actually do something. A lot of uni campuses have been very quiet and conservative for some time.

Abusive, selfish thugs with no respect for the opinions of others. The kind of people who created the Gulag Archipelago.

It is the totalitarian instinct made manifest.

Healthy reactions:

Australian Liberal Students’ Federation spokesperson Matthew Lesh condemned the disruption to the debate that had been taking place on the show.
“This demonstration displays the willingness of the extreme left to use disruptive and ferocious methods” Mr Lesh sid.
“Tonight’s protests are an embarrassment to students, and do not in any sense represent the regular student body.”

How did so many socialist radicals get into the Q&A audience? What is the vetting like? How often does this happen, when we’re told the audience is balanced but discover from the hooting it’s just another love-in of the Left?

Perhaps like many Australians they are worried about their future under Abbott's cut, cut, slash, cut government. Good on them for standing up for their rights!

They do have a right to protest, peacefully.

But we also have a right to assess merit in light of conduct. Now, I am very happy to politely debate any topic of any ones choosing, but only on the proviso that they conduct themselves with due decorum. Now, none of these protesters displayed decorum in any form, and therefore, in my book, irrespective of the validity (or otherwise) of the augment, they have earned the label, feral.

Furthermore, nowhere in my post did I assert bias toward any political group or leaning. That is I didn’t attack Q and A on its obvious biased towards either the left or the right,and I’m happy to see you agree bias exists. Therefore I assume you agree that this bias is inappropriate and should cease, and if it doesn’t, corrective action is required.

it isn't so much the protest itself , its the fact that it exists at all that's encouraging. wrong place ? wrong approach ? most likely yes. wrong motivation ? heck no.

as for the ABC bias claims, i would say that the other networks do not provide a similar set of programs. we have a bit of predictable comment inserted into the commercial networks magazine format 'news programs' and that's it apart from the terribly compromised Bolt and his LNP advertorial, hardly a serious effort. the ABC SBS are the only ones doing anything real in this area .. they fill a very large hole.. and i would suggest to those who consider them 'biased' that in fact they report it as close to the truth as possible whereas the others make no effort apart from paid propaganda.

Probably the same way "black ops" did last week, they are not truthful when completing the aplication form.

Who would be surprised if it turns out these were more black ops in disguise?

its hard to see how a group that is open as to who they are can be ''A Front '' they are who they say they are, hardly a front.

''A Front'' better describes the LNP who describe themselves as representatives of constituents but are in fact a proven 'front' for the big end of town .

Yes, they were disruptive, but good on them for using their voice and passion to take a stand against something that will not only affect themselves but also those who want to further their eduction in the future. I dread the upcoming budget and if it does turn out to be as unneccesarily harsh as expected then the government should expect further protest from all sectors of the community..
