You may find quite a lot of places are already booked out in Sydney. They have higher rates when big sports events are on too.

When my rellies were over from NZ a few years ago it was when State of Origin was on (May?) that they wanted to spend a night in Sydney - room rates were $300-$700 p.n. I did find them a more reasonable rate in a pretty avg hotel, which they were happy with.

My eldest lives in Sydney now, that is my hotel.

I'm thinking of getting tickets to the Bledisloe Cup game at Homebush next month and will be looking for a hotel or somewhere to stay at. Does anyone have suggestions about what areas I should be looking in? It doesn't have to be really close (they're probably already booked out) but within easy reach on public transport would be good. I'm coming from the south coast so on that side would be better. Thanks 🙂

Anywhere around Central Station is going to be good cause the public transport system is pretty much set up for big events at Homebush.

Central to Homebush takes about 30mins.

A friend of mine stayed at the Adina Central for one night last week for $190 which is right above the station. The room was magnificent and had a good kitchen in there as well.

But otherwise there are lost of hotels around Olympic Park. I've just checked the dates and there are lots of vacancies. The IBIS at Homebush Bay still has vacancies for $239 a night.

See this: http://www.lastminute.com.au/accommodation/australia/sydney-homebush-bay?checkin=22%2F6%2F2014&budget=99999&datefrom=03%2F8%2F2014&noadults=2&dateto=17%2F8%2F2014&checkout=23%2F6%2F2014&nochilds=0&starrating=0

If you found something in Lidcombe or Auburn then it is only a few stops to Homebush. Not very attractive though. Or you could stay in Parramatta 30min by train. If you choose Parramatta choose something close to the centre of the city.

I've just read that your coming from the South Coast. If you are doing this by train then I would definietly stop in Central. Otherwise you are going to have to go to Central anyway, then change for another train line and go backwards on another line to get wherever your hotel is.

Here is the link to the Adina Central. http://www.adinahotels.com.au/adina-apartment-hotel-sydney-central/hotel

It is right next door to the country platform where you will come out of the Central Coast service so no need for taxis or walking.

Also I'd be more comfortable using trains at night on the city lines than I would be on the suburban lines. The city lines are more frequent and they are always full no matter what time. And for an event like Bedisloe, there will be lots of people like you needing to get to Central to change to other lines.
