Rolf Harris appeared at London's Southark Crown Court yesterday (Tues), to answer assault charges.

They want to support him, I suppose. His wife isn't there everyday. His close family are females. He is 84yo.

I have never been the defendant in a court case but I have been the complainant. I was very glad of some family support at court.

I imagine it would be the same for a defendant, perhaps even more stressful than for the complainant.

Why do you think it is odd?

Exactly, Flashie.

It is similar to anyone's appearance in a court, it is the actual "appearance" and the quality of the supporters that is an argument for "innocent" (or clemency) before they get to the witness box. I think it may be part of any solicitor/barristers "a.r.s.e.n.a.l" of requirements.

Because his wife looks old and frail. It looks to be difficult for her to walk far.

His wife is old and frail.. She is crippled with arthritis. Should she be told to stay home because of that? They are both elderly.

If his wife and daughter stayed away from court..everyone would go on about that as well.. They don't support him, they think he is guilty etc

So he is saying he had an affair with her when she was 18?? That it was consensual? That'd be nice for the wife to sit through?
And the son in law has made a statement saying he wouldn't leave his child alone with the grandfather (Rolf).

Any appearances (of any court case) are very carefully scripted. Whatever the defence counsel says, they do. He is trying to appear frail also.

Aren't you allowed to be frail when you are 84? His wife is very frail.. Are you suggesting she is faking it?

I doubt any of that ( appearances) would influence the outcome anyway.

I doubt very much that they are faking at being frail, after all they are in their 80's. My MIL is 87 and she is very, very frail.

My FIL was fit and able just 4 years ago, a major stress in his life has caused him to become very frail. He is 86

Where did I suggest that she is faking it?

Appearances do affect outcomes. That is why they are done. Haven't you seen on television young men who have never before worn a suit front up to the court made over? (I'm referring to real life, not Hollywood).

I was told what colour dress to wear and what sort of shoes to wear when I went to court for child maintenance.
