So, sineater would you use ground (minced) beef in stir frys and stroganoff? That is what I was querying, your earlier post with suggested meals list for using minced beef.

Mix together, top with additional Ketchup/Balsamic. Pop in the oven at 350 for about an hour and a quarter.

And, I just recently made shepherds' pie.

Lasagne ... the kid loves that, but I prefer MOUSSAKA.

What exactly are kofta? If they are the large meatball type thingies, they're yummy.

I don't think I've ever made chilli con carne ... I think I had a bad experience with it as a kid.

BUT, that reminds me of TACOS ...

Most meals have already been mentioned what I use mince for. Can use it to make a pie ( traditional or a filo pastry parcel)

Sineater - Mince is ground beef here...not what we would use for stroganoff, stirfry etc ( beef strips). 🙂

My top secret home made lasagna recipe. The way my grandma used to make it.

Ingredients:

500 gram beef

300 gram mortadella (peppered or plain) and chop it all up finely.

500 gram mozzarella cheese

200 gram parmesan cheese

6 hard boiled eggs. (use a manual slicer to get even slices)

1 beef stock cube

1 onion

2 cloves garlic

5 smoked pork bones

1 bottle Italian tomato sauce

1 litre water

a bit olive oil

1 pack egg based lasagna sheets (pre-cooked).

Method:

Chop onion and put in a large pot. Add oil and fry till it starts to lightly brown don't over cook. Then add 500 gram beef. Use wooden spoon to break it all up. Add garlic. Fry meat till it turns brown. Then add bottle of sauce and 1 litre water. Add stock cube. Stir and make sure it is well broken up. Then add smoked pork bones. Add more water if required, the pot should be at least 3/4 full of liquid. Place the lid on an angle, leave a little bit air to escape preferably use a lid with the airpin hole if you have one.

Now comes the trick to gourmet taste:

You GOTTA cook this on the stove, on a very low heat, for at least 5 hours. The sauce should be thick and creamy after 5 hours.

The smoky flavors from the bones will intensify the whole sauce. This will be your base to an awesome lasagna. Once this process is finished make sure you use a fork to take the meat off the bones then discard the bones. Then stir all the meat well. The consistency of the sauce should be like a ragu. Just like what you get in a gourmet meat pie.

Using a white corningware tray, place a bit sauce on the bottom. Then add a layer of lasagna sheets. Then put sauce on sheets. add mozzarella, parmesan cheese, mortadella, boiled eggs. REPEAT this process until you get to the top. Once you finish make sure the TOP layer is full of cheese. Then put aluminium foil over the tray.

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees celsius.

Cook for 1 hour.

Then take the foil off and cook till cheese is golden brown (about 7 min).

Then take it out. Let it stand for at least 20 min. Don't touch it. Leave it to settle!

Then CUT and EATTTTTTTTTT.... YUM.

Actually, I was also going to suggest beef stroganoff too. It turns out very good with ground beef. You just brown the meat and then add the other things that go in a normal stroganoff. Here is a picture of one that I fixed recently and served with bowtie pasta.

I hate to sound a bit hoity toity but I always use sliced fillet steak for a stroganoff.

One thing I like to do with mince is with the left overs from a spaggi bol. I usually freeze some of the bolognese sauce for later.

Rather than do the same thing with it, I like mixing it in with cooked pasta like macaroni or those little bow ones, top with grated cheese and bake it in the oven for a while.

It's more like a pasta bake than a spaggi bol then and the boys love it.

It has a ton of cheese and sour cream in it also. I rarely make it, because is it very rich and fattening.

This was my latest lasagne. It's made with ground beef and then topped with Italian hot sausage.

I've never had it that way.

I use ricotta cheese in mine. I have a recipe that also cooks for about 5 hours, and probably has a sauce similar to your sauce. It has a ton of cheese and sour cream in it also. I rarely make it, because is it very rich and fattening.

This recipe is southern Italian mainly from the island of Sicily. The northern Italians use ricotta cheese and bechamel sauce but we don't do that in the south. The northerners are influenced by French cooking. The original and the best tasting lasagnas in my opinion is the southern recipe. Whenever I make this everyone eats it fast, disappears very quickly LOL.
