I've seen this ad a few times now. I don't think the ad gets its point across. How is it discrimination against just indigenous is a stretch? Just cause the person feel like they've been discriminated because they're indigenous doesn't make it so. You can look suspecious with your hands tucked into your sleeve regardless of your race. Plus that woman frankly just look white to me. And some women simply prefer not to sit next to man on a bus. The last guy just look mediteranian to me even though the only bit related to the indigenous is the "ab0" joke.

I get the point they're trying to make on the ad but it just ends up mocking the indigeous for being cry babies. I don't like this ad.

That reminds me of an experiement Oprah Winfrey did.

She had her make up people put scars on peoples faces and sent them out in public to get the reactions of other people. All the people returned saying they were shocked how everyone would stare at their scars.

What they didn't know....that last minute touch up to the scars...they actually removed them.

Yep, all the ad does is reinforce to the indiginous they are discriminated every single incident and day because of their race when it's not necessary the case.

It's a powerful ad.
I don't feel it mocks them.

BUT after this last week and the final straw that has broken this camels back....they need to change within themselves and some of their behaviour if they want people to give them all a chance.
In saying that I have many great friends, workmates and my children's friends and family that are indigenous.....just over giving them all respect.

Beyond Blue is reinforcing the belief to the indigenous

that all Australians are racist. This is not the case at all.

My daughter has been the recipient of some of those scenarios.

She is white Australian, but for some reason gets suspected of

being a shoplifter. She is quite indignant at the time and can't

see or understand why. I have seen it in action.

Discrimination is discrimination. Colour doesn't come into it.

Sorry guys I have to say this.

When I came to QLD I was so shocked, at the racist comments I heard, being a Kiwi I had never heard any one call people this name, I actually said but you dont have Raccoons in Australia and they laughed at me.

I just turned and walked away because I was shocked.

I was also sad because some of these people I liked before they started this **bleep**.

Boris, you're so right. And that phrase is usually followed by: "i have friends who are black (or indigenous)". They seem to think that means they're not racists. And you're right again, when you say racism is never not racisim.

How about that bogus claim and charge of racism regarding Tawana Brawley? He ended up having to pay that falsely accused police officer a tidy sum.

I'll tell you when racism isn't racism, when someone accuses another of being racist without a scintilla of proof or reason.

This weekend I went to the cinemas in the Blue Mountains and there was a young indigenous girl behind the counter. We bought our tickets and were waiting next a group of about 10 people (all older) who spent the next 30mins discussing whether the girl behind the counter was aboriginal. Hopefully she was too busy to notice cause they spent the time laughing and looking at her.

They didn't stop even when my husband interrupted with "is there an issue?"

I imagine if you get this kind of reaction wherever you are, it would be depressing.

People can be bigoted and insensitive for various reason. Doesn't make it racism.

I didn't notice she was indigenous until I overheard the comments in this group. But I had another look to see what they were going on about and yes, she was clearly indigenous albeit very light skinned.

Would they have spent half an hour of their time staring at a blond girl and debating her nationality? Or staring at an olive skinned girl and debating her nationality? No. So it is racism.

Wondering about someones nationality or not the same level of srcutinisation that indigenous people get. Because unfortunately it is tied into a whole raft of other stereotypes. That is what the ad is trying to highlight.

And I have often talked about a young indigenous girl I had working for me who copped unbelievable racism every day - from people pointing and staring, to refusing to touch her (a bit hard when she was working a cash register and wanted to give you some change) to making overt gestures like visibly checking their change as if they were expecting her to steal some of it.

Let me introduce you to the actual agenda being driven by some indigenous academics and activists under the guise of equality and social inclusion.

Their vision is of a divided Australia. Of two separate societies – indigenous and the rest.

A society with two Parliaments. One exclusively for indigenous peoples and the other for the rest of us.

A society where we are a republic, where the Head of State has executive powers, but is elected solely by a vote of indigenous persons – the rest of us don’t have a say.

A society where the no-indigenous Parliament may pass laws which apply to non-indigenous persons only. However, all laws passed by the indiginous Parliament will apply to all person, indigenous or not.

And, I almost forget, all of this will be funded by a levy on all non-indigenous side of the society calculated at 3% of GDP. That is, we will do the work and 3% of what we earning will be handed to the Indiginous Parliament who will distribute it to those persons it deems, fall within the definition of indigenous.

Now, if you want a debate on actual as distinct to perceived racism, the this is a good start point to start.

So, where did this information come? The ABC Program “Big Ideas” where on the question “Should indigenous persons be recognised in the Constitution” an Aboriginal Barrister and indigenous right activist argued that no such need exists, because, this is his, and many other leading activists view of the future of Australian society – a country divided by race.

Australians are not the racists were supposed to believe we are. I will post a survey when I get home that puts us in a good light when compared to o/seas countries.
