How can this happen?

A witness said she was hanging by her legs before being thrown. Were the operators not watching? Surely there is a button to stop the ride immediately.

This is heartbreaking. OMG the poor family and the poor people around who witnessed it

Those rides terrified me when I was a kid, I always felt like I was going to slide out.

Oh my this is just so awful to read..I feel sick as it was only a few days back i said to someone that somebody was going to be killed eventually on a ride..I had just been watching a second american news story of a ride that had broken down leaving people stuck in a dangerous situation ..I work at the show grounds in melbourne each year & had been thinking of all our shows starting up again..

This is tragic. I was at the Adelaide Royal show two years ago with my husband's g'kids. I hope they weren't there when this happened. The Twins just turned 9.

So sad. ;(

witnesses are saying the harness was secure, she just slipped through 😞

There was a height limit on the ride, if she was smaller than that, then the operator is in big trouble.

There are reports saying that the mother lied about her age so she could go on the ride, dont know if those reports are true yet

I really hope thats not true.

Though Ive seen it, Im sure we all have, I saw a father arguing black and blue with ride operators of the 'chair-o-plane' (its not called that anymore, dont remember what they call it these days) to let his 3 year old son on, and tried to carry him onto the ride when he thought they werent looking. I was horrified that he thought a child so small should be allowed on.

Mugs and I were at the Robbie Williams concert the other night and a small girl, between 7-9 was hauled from the standing area, and carried past us by security, unconscious. She was fine, we saw her on the train station later that night.

the mother will never forgive herself

She has to live with her decision.

Personally, I would not have allowed an 8 yo on it.

My "mother" was horrified that the operators of the wild mouse wouldn't let me on the ride when we first came to Australia! I was 5 and had been on roller coasters since I was big enough to climb the steps!
TOTALY agree Ima, not something I would want to live with!

Totally agree.

I would not let my kids go on rides alone at that age. I would go on with them much to their horror if there was no big (teenage) responsible person.

I will always be thankful that I was that way.

When my angel daughter was 8 we went on the roller coaster at St Kilda. As it started to move she decided she wanted off. I had to hang on to her all the way around. Scared the soulcase out of me.
