Will it happen here ? If Subway Australia management deem it to be profitable (a fine capitalist motive) then probably yes. I'm sure Subway won't do it because they're pressured into it. It will be a business decision.

Love all the comments at the foot of the article from the waa-waa brigade "well that's the last they see of my 50 quid a week" maybe they can shop at the other 1,315 Subway stores in the UK. Sheesh.

And the problem is?

The thing is you probably don't even know you are eating halal meat. All Australian processesoors by law have to have procedures in place for processing their meat for halal consumption.

So sticker or not, I am sure much of the meat already makes it onto your subway even though it doesn't have the dreaded sticker.

If there is no difference in taste and the process does not cause health problems, where is the problem.

The only real problem is the no bacon/ham for those who eat it, if it goes rural where there is no other option.

Mind you none of which will effect me as I rarely eat bacon/ham anyway.

I guess this would only happen at muslim owned franchises anyway.

I can't see an issue, I expect there are enough stores for anyone who objects to find another one, close by.

Why remove bacon and ham? surely those who can't/won't/don't eat it can order a Subway with else on it. Quite frankly I find it offensive that they deem this animal to be un clean, what a load of HOGWASH

the link says, it's only a select number of stores and they are catering to their highest percentage of customers. If it happened here, there are 5 subway outlets within a 3k radius of me. One outlet serving turkey rashers instead of bacon rashers should not upset anyone.

Surely there are bigger issues to be offended about than a small number of Subway stores in a country far, far away from Australia presenting food appropriate to their customer demographic. Why does the declaration that a pig is an unclean animal in the Muslim faith affect you so strongly ? Why does it even worry you and find it offensive ? Strange maybe, even odd, or inappropriate to your culture, but offensive ???

Quite obviously, the almost 200 stores that did it, have a majority of customers who don't want ham and bacon. Otherwise their marketing strategy will send them bankrupt.

Subway don't care if they offend. Subway cafre about the profitability of the store and if they can make more by having halal subway, kosher subway or vegetarian subway they will cater for those people.
