Coffee Machines - Recommendations please. :)

Thinking about buying one for my husband & daughter for Christmas. As I am not a coffee drinker myself, I am a bit clueless about what brand/type to get to be honest. Something that does the different kinds of coffees would be great.

Last year I made the mistake of buying one of those Pod type machines and apparently the coffee is pretty bad, so I am looking to redeem myself and buy something decent for them. I might add also I don't want to spend a fortune.

I would appreciate any input and the benefit of those with experience!

A kettle on the gas top is good enough for me.

Others will have different ideas about the new fangled contraptions...........Richo.

Sorry, I can't help with the fancy pants machines, but I have found a way around the bad coffee in the pods. I have bought some reusable "pods" and fill them myself with my favourite blend from my local roaster. Soooo much better

I have a Delonghi (Prima Donna) bought about 6 years ago for around $1,500 and an Aldi pod bought last year for $99.

The DeLonghi is currently gathering dust as I only use the POD one.

I am a bit of a coffee snob and whilst the DeLonghi makes a fabulous coffee, personally I think my Aldi Pod gives an equally good coffee. You just have to buy the correct Pod for your taste - most people buy the strongest ones cause they think it ewill taste better but these are generally the most bitter.

I bought the DeLonghi after buying a cheap coffee machine (Sunbeam I think). I have yet to taste a decent coffee from a cheap machine.

My cousin and a few friends have the Aldi one, and they all say it is the best.......

I dont have one, as yet, but if I get one it will be the Aldi one.

I also have one of those fancy pod coffee makers. I hate it. I have tried filling the pods with my favorite coffee, and for some reason it turns out really weak.

Good 'Ol Mr. Coffee still makes a great cup of coffee. Get one that you can set to make coffee at a certain time, and also make sure it has an automatic shut off feature.

Something like the one in this searchable listing.

Last time I had one of those was in the US last year. I didn't realise they even still around.

The Aldi ones are the best (and the cheapest).

My brother has the biggest, bestest Nespresso and it's OK but it all depends on the pod taste. He buys really seriously strong ones for himself and really weak ones for his wife and both taste awful.

My sister bought a small one (Map) and that was terrible. She chucked it within a few months.She also has a good DeLonghi and that's all she uses.

A nice addition to a coffee maker, would be a coffee grinder. I grind the beans every morning, so that the coffee is really fresh.

That must have been early 80's then. You don't even see them in hotels anymore.

Where did you go where you saw a percolator?

I am serious when I say I have not seen one for decades. I can't even imagine what business would serve percolated coffee.

Hi cavoodle. I am a coffee/caffeine nutter. I drink it strong, hot and black. I love my Harris Colombian .......and have a change to something different ev so often. Don't mind grinding my own with a grinder gadget I have.

Used to drip perc my coffee then several years back watched evrybody else fly around buying the latest coffee machines.....many spent thousands, I kid ye not! Pod gadgets (blah!) artificial flavoured coffee imo (no offence people I may have offended *Yeeks!)...

..........anyhoo forget spending all the BIG BUCKS on one of these OVER RATED machines - that never get the coffee as hot as a kettle freshly boiled and poured imo. Buy a couple of quality coffee plungers.

They are the best. Make it FRESH, HOT and drink it straight away. yummo

No I mean a drip coffee with filters etc. We used to call them percolators here as well as drip.

Actually paints a good plunge press is not bad. But the coffee HAS to be seriously good quality and needs to be ground to just the right consistency.

Otherwise it tastes...just like percolated coffee lol.

Yes it does have to be seriously good quality.....hence what I saved on buying 2 plungers (a 4-6 cuupa for ev day use and a larger for visitors) I spend on seriously good quality already ground as this is better than I can grind for consistency in my grinder. But my grinder comes seriously close! Seriously!!

*..takes a few serious sips of hot brewed coffee

I don't like to use too hot just boiled water.

I've got a cheapish De Longhi that's not too large, heats up fast and makes good coffee.
