I was looking forward to today. I had planned, with a friend, to go out to brunch, then we were going to watch the Boats Afloat procession, then enjoy a glass or two in the sun.
I was so disappointed when she texted me to say she couldn't go. A bit annoyed really to have my day spoilt.

Then she phoned me to tell me they were on their way to her elderly mother who had had a bad fall and was going into surgery and it wasn't looking good (because of underlying health issues).

Puts my tiny irritation into perspective really. We need these reminders about what is important sometimes don't we.

My Mum had a fall on Friday, she was lucky only a few bruises and shattered pride but she's now confined to her wheel chair for future mobility.

Oh, that's no good freddie. The older we get the more precious our parents get huh?

You're really lucky to still have your mum freddie.

Mine's been gone over 30 years.

Not always. I have raised nine children and the older I get, the more some distance themself. Afraid I may become a burden to them and upset their lifestyle.

I am lucky that at 78 I still have a good husband and a couple of children who care.

Yes, perspective is something we all need sometimes to bring us down to earth and what is really important not only to us, but to others as well.

Blasted falls! I lost my father due to a terrible fall. I have had two serious falls myself. I am off the the falls clinic next week in the hope that I will gain a little better balance.

Yeah, like complaining to someone missing a leg that the new shoes you bought last week hurts your toe. The one without a leg wishes they had that problem.

Never a day goes by I don't think of and miss both of mine.

Lost my father in 1980 & my Mum in 1997.

Have always had so much to tell them.

I visited my 90 year old foster aunt yesterday on my way home. So fortunate to still have in my life. She still lives in the same home she has for 20 years alone. Keeps it immaculate with the fortnightly help of a cleaner who does the bathroom and floors, is rarely home due to her busy social life, still drives but only to the shops these days. Walks without aide....and her mind is as sharp as it was 50 years ago. Although she did admit to missing some birthdays this year lol

So sorry to hear about your dear mother Freddie ... hopefully her being confined to a wheelchair will not stop her from doing all the things she loves to do. She is blessed to have a wonderful daughter like you xxx

Reading back a little, hope those of you who have suffered falls are or will feel better very soon.

I am glad to hear you Mum is okay Freddie, I lost my Dad to a fall 11 years ago this month he was 79, on Thursday my Step Father in Law died after having a fall he was 92.

What seems minor when you are young can be a killer when you are old so you have to keep an eye out for the elderly.
