This angers me. They were not bullied into anything. People posted on their page that they will not be buying their products while they are halal certified. That is our right as consumers to choose what to buy and there is no law saying we cant let businesses know this.

I bought a frozen pizza once and it was rubbish (more rubbish then frozen pizzas usually are). I let the company know and told them i would not buy their products again. Whats wrong with that?

The Fleurieu Milk and Yoghurt Company wrote this on their fb page

""I can assure you there is no gelatin at all in our yoghurt. The only reason for our certification was to supply emirates airlines as they give you no choice. We will push to prove the fact that we don't need to be certified and try to continue supplying them but the chances are minimal."

Emirates gave them "no choice". Why was the word bully not thrown around then?

oh well thats it then - a newspaper used the word bows so that makes it true.

nobody else's opinion matters after the courier mail has voiced theirs.

Fleurieu Milk Company sales and marketing manager Nick Hutchinson said the decision to drop the halal certification would mean the Myponga-based dairy would lose a yoghurt supply deal with Emirates worth around $50,000 a year.

Mr Hutchinson said the decision was regrettable, but that the company had decided the possible damage to its brand outweighed the benefits of being halal certified.

“We’ve copped a pasting online,” he said.

“We saw the barrage of comments on these sites and the calls to boycott our products and decided it wasn’t worth it. I suppose we’ve given in to a vocal minority.

they need support and with luck many more will follow and stop paying the extortion tax.

I really don't know what else it could be called when a 2% minority can dictate to the remaining 98% that they have to pay a tax to their religion.

I couldn't imagine people being quiet if all the churches came out and said to every company they expect them to pay a tax to them and they would allow their members to consume their products.

People would be in the streets demanding someone stop it as its nothing but extortion

and anyway we already did the dance on the other thread - they made a business decision based on public feedback, as did woolworths.

if they want to use the terminology of 'bowing down' and playing the victim then that's fine, semantics doesn't change the facts - they did what they felt best serves them in the long run.

the company itself calls it bullying as do other companies that have been subjected to the irrational anti halal campaign, Byron Bay Cookeis have had to contact the police - it's bullying by a tiny minority - often from people not even based in Australia - wonder how many jobs this anti Australian campaign will cost while the "campaigners" pat themselves on the back for a job well done.
